He was once told, “You know, you are too sweet, just too sweet for this world.” He blushed then, and just laughed it off. He thought it was a beautiful compliment. He was proud of himself, of his pure heart. But he did not realize that it was a warning. He was stubborn. He kept on getting hurt, but he kept on believing in the goodness of people. He believed the next person who smiled at him, anyone who called him his own. But something within just kept on building, that heaviness. And one day, one person broke him beyond repair. It just shattered him. He realized that if he did not change, this world would kill him. So he changed. He became bitter. He became brick in his heart. He cried. He cried like a baby. He sobbed into his pillow. He cried in the shower, in the washroom, on the terrace, and what bloody place not. He suffered, silently, away from all eyes. And all those tears made him rude in his soul. He swore to himself that he will let no human come close to him.

So when you call him heartless today, there is a story. He is scared. He has scars, deeper than you could ever imagine. He does not get emotional because he knows the intensity of his emotions. He knows that if he falls weak again, there will be nothing left of him. He acts too strong because he is sick of being too weak. He has not lost his soul. He still feels those pure things. But he slaps himself to stay out. He acts all macho and tough. But deep down, he feels lonely. He misses being that sweet kid again, that innocence in his smile, that purity in his voice. He cracks the funniest jokes. But he screams in the quietest of silence. You might think that he has an attitude problem. But he is just a scared kid who is screaming at everyone because he does not want to get hurt. Inside, he longs for a hand on his shoulder. He craves a voice into his ears that will say “I understand who you really are. I know you are scared. But I won’t hurt you. You are not this heartless, rude guy. You are a beautiful soul. Hold my hand and come back. Trust me.” One day, maybe, he will find that soul. Will he? 🙂

Tehseen ki Masjid

A Religious Monument with a Social Message

Chowk lane is famous for Tunday Kababi, Chandi Ka Warq, Phool Wali Gali, Gota, Chikan, Zardozi, Ittar, much more and the historical Tehsin Ki Masjid. The view of this mosque from a distance showcases three domes, out of which the middle one seems to be of a greater height than the ones at the extremes possessing equal height. Each of them have narrow, regular ribbings and at the peak of each dome is mounted an ornamental narrow rod which points at the sky. Built in Indo-Islamic style of architecture, the high minarets, turrets and carvings on the walls beautify the facade of the mosque. Three multi-arched gateways present at the front face of the structure lead to the interior of the mosque. The mosque is named after Tehsin Ali Khan.

Tehsin Ali Khan was a Khwajasara. He managed the Khurd Mahal in which Bahu Begum, wife of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, was kept at Faizabad.

The story behind the construction of Tehsin Ki Masjid is as fascinating and magnificent as the mosque itself. “When the Bada Imambara was getting constructed, Tehsin went to Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula begging to allow him to take away all the debris which was obtained when the noblemen who did not wanted to be recognized as labourers were called after the sunset to demolish the raised structures. Nawab allowed him to haul this rubble and later with the same rubble Tehsin Ali Khan had successfully built a mosque which is now popular as Tehsin Ki Masjid.

Nadan Mahal

Adding a charm in the rich history of Lucknow is another mausoleum - Nadan Mahal - that dates back to the time of Mughal era. Dedicated to Shaikh Ibrahim Chishti, Nadan Mahal is one of the oldest surviving historical monuments in Lucknow. During the reign of the great Mughal emperor, Akbar, Sheikh Ibrahim Chishti was the first governor of Lucknow. Though the mausoleum is less-known amongst tourists, yet, it is one of the most tranquil tourist sites to visit in Lucknow. It is located in a park complex in the old city of Lucknow. There are three structures in the park; two of them are enclosed tombs. One of the tombs contains the remains of Ibrahim Chishti. Once it was a prominent place for Sheikh’s followers used to pray for Nadan (deliverance), and hence, the name of the mausoleum came.
