USA Basketball Men's National Team: Why is Jayson Tatum being benched ? 😇😎🫣🤭🤭

In last night's game, Phoenix Suns' star player Kevin Durant stepped up big time. He took over the minutes usually played by Jayson Tatum. Even though Durant only played for 17 minutes off the bench, he scored an impressive 23 points. He made 8 out of 9 shots, including all 5 three-pointers he attempted. He also scored both free throws and grabbed two rebounds.
After the game, Coach Steve Kerr talked to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. He felt bad about not playing Jayson Tatum more. Coach Kerr said he had talked to Tatum before the game and explained that with Kevin Durant coming back, the lineup had to change a bit. However, he promised that Tatum will play in future games. Kerr mentioned that Tatum is one of the best players and has been named First Team All-NBA for three years in a row. Kerr admitted that he felt foolish for not playing Tatum but explained that in a 40-minute game, it's hard to play more than 10 players.
Coach Kerr also mentioned that Tatum will definitely play in the next game on Wednesday. He didn't say which player would sit out to make room for Tatum, but he emphasized the importance of keeping all players ready to play because unexpected things can happen.
Another player, Tyrese Haliburton, might not get much playing time. Haliburton is great on offense but not as strong on defense. In Sunday's game, Coach Kerr used all three of his centers – Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, and Bam Adebayo – to guard the opposing team's star player, Nikola Jokic. For the upcoming game against South Sudan, a smaller and faster team, it's possible Adebayo will be the 11th man and not play as much.
Coach Kerr said the hardest part of his job is deciding which world-class players to sit out each game. He knows it doesn't always make sense, but he's asking the players to focus on winning one game at a time. He has to do the same as a coach and choose the best combinations of players for each game.
