The 79th Independence Day Football Tournament has begun at Singhik Secondary School Ground. With the final match set for 16th August, this tournament is a wonderful way to commemorate our special day.

The chief guests for this tournament were Shri Ongdup Lepcha,Shri Chya Tashi Lepcha,Shri Rinzing Lepcha and CHANDIK Azong, all from Singhik village.

Lachen, July 25:
Electricity has finally been restored to Lachen after nearly two months of blackout, bringing long-awaited relief to the people of this high-altitude region. As per an official update from Sonam Power JE, all outgoing feeders from Chatten Station were successfully charged at 6:18 PM today, and power supply has resumed smoothly across all connected areas of Lachen without any technical issues. Feeders are currently being monitored to ensure stable load and voltage levels.

This major restoration follows the visit of Hon’ble Area MLA and Minister Shri Samdup Lepcha on July 17, who personally took stock of the situation and firmly demanded immediate restoration of electricity for the people of Lachen. His proactive leadership and strong follow-up with concerned departments played a crucial role in accelerating the process.

Officials from the Power Department have been working tirelessly under extremely challenging conditions, navigating dangerous terrain and adverse weather to carry out repairs and maintenance in remote and difficult-to-access areas. Their relentless commitment and technical expertise were key in ensuring that power was finally restored safely and efficiently.

The residents of Lachen have expressed heartfelt gratitude to both the Minister and the dedicated power department team for their efforts in resolving this long-standing issue.

Legship, July 25: A heart-wrenching incident has sent shockwaves through the Legship area of West Sikkim, as a young man reportedly jumped into the river from the Gammon Bridge while holding his 7-month-old daughter.

The tragic event unfolded earlier today, prompting immediate action from police teams from Geyzing and Legship. A full-scale search and rescue operation was swiftly launched, with additional support from local organizations, particularly in the Khare Khola stretch of the river where the search is being concentrated.
