FOUR ESCAPE DEATH, INCLUDING PRIME TV HEAD DRIVER IN FOUR-VEHICLE PILE-UP AT SOS ROUNDABOUT.

By Michael Himusa Jnr

Four people, including a Prime Television head driver, escaped death following a chain-collision road traffic accident involving four vehicles.

The accident happened today at around 10:30 hours along the Great North Road at SOS Roundabout in Lusaka.

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the vehicles involved were a Toyota Hilux, Toyota Crown, Hino Dutro and a Toyota Wish driven by Prime Television driver Gustaffson Njobvu.

Mr. Chilabi explains that the accident happened when a Toyota Hilux driven by 24-year-old Peter Mutale collided with the rear of a Toyota Crown driven by 41-year-old Arthur Teleshi.

He says the impact caused the Hilux to subsequently collide with a Hino Dutro, while the Toyota Crown veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the Toyota Wish.

Mr. Chilabi states that preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hilux failed to maintain a safe following distance, resulting in the chain collision.

He adds that Peter Mutale and Arthur Teleshi sustained minor injuries and were treated and later discharged from hospital.

NO WIND OF CHANGE IN ZAMBIA, HH SET FOR VICTORY – LEEVAN CHIBOMBWE

By KNOX ZAMBIA

Former Bahati Member of Parliament and UPND parliamentary candidate, Hon. Leevan Chibombwe, says he does not see any "wind of change" capable of unseating President Hakainde Hichilema in the August 13 General Election.

Speaking during a media briefing held at his residence in Bahati on Sunday, Mr. Chibombwe expressed confidence that President Hichilema will secure another electoral victory, citing the government's economic policies and development agenda as key factors behind his optimism.

Mr. Chibombwe said President Hichilema has demonstrated clear leadership and vision for Zambia's future, adding that the Head of State remains focused on growing the economy and improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

He noted that one of the reasons he joined the United Party for National Development (UPND) was because of what he described as President Hichilema's long-term vision and commitment to national development.

The former lawmaker further praised the UPND government's development record in Luapula Province, pointing to the Mabumba Solar Project as one of the most significant investments undertaken in the region in decades.

According to Mr. Chibombwe, the Mabumba Solar Project is the biggest development project to be undertaken in Mansa since the establishment of the Mansa Batteries plant during the era of Zambia's First Republican President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

He said such infrastructure investments demonstrate the government's determination to bring meaningful development to previously underserved areas and contribute to economic growth and job creation.

Mr. Chibombwe maintained that the development projects being implemented across the country have strengthened public confidence in the UPND administration and will play a significant role in the outcome of the upcoming elections.

CHIFUNABULI RESIDENTS URGED TO BACK ONGOING DEVELOPMENT AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

Former Chifunabuli Member of Parliament Hon. Ponde C. Mecha has called on residents of Chifunabuli North and Chifunabuli South to support continuity in development programmes ahead of Zambia's next general election, arguing that ongoing projects should not be disrupted by political change.

In a statement titled "Salt Sana or the Late Lamp? Chifunabuli Must Not Be Swept Away by Political Whirlwinds," Mecha said voters should base their electoral decisions on tangible development achievements rather than campaign promises and political symbolism.

He described the upcoming elections as a choice between "proven results and untested promises," urging residents to evaluate leadership based on performance and service delivery.

According to Mecha, several development initiatives are currently underway in the district, including works on the Musaila-Kasaba Road and projects funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). He noted that increased CDF allocations have contributed to the rehabilitation of schools, construction of classroom blocks, improvements to health facilities, and implementation of various community infrastructure projects.

The former lawmaker also highlighted youth empowerment programmes, skills development initiatives, bursary support for vulnerable learners, and opportunities created for local contractors, cooperatives, women, and entrepreneurs.

"Development is a journey, not an event," Mecha stated, adding that while challenges remain, progress already achieved should be strengthened rather than interrupted.

He cautioned voters against being influenced by what he termed "political whirlwinds," arguing that political excitement and campaign slogans should not replace practical development plans and effective governance.

Mecha further stressed that leadership should be judged by measurable outcomes and the impact of decisions on ordinary citizens rather than t
