In pursuance of the directives issued by the Government of Nagaland, Urban Development Department, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has launched a mass sensitisation campaign across all 18 wards under its jurisdiction.
The campaign commenced on 8th June 2026 and will continue until 17th June 2026. The programme aims to educate and create awareness among the general public regarding the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court pertaining to scientific waste management and environmental protection. Special emphasis is being placed on the mandatory implementation of four-stream source segregation of waste at the household, institutional, and commercial levels.
The campaign also seeks to promote responsible waste management practices, encourage community participation, and foster behavioural change towards a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment. The sensitisation programme is being conducted under the theme, “A Global Call for Climate Action,” highlighting the collective responsibility of citizens in addressing environmental challenges and contributing towards climate resilience.
The resource persons for the campaign are Dr. Temjensangla Pongener, Associate Professor, Fazl Ali College (FAC) & Earth Alliance Mokokchung unit; Miss Sungtiyala, Proprietor of Green Heap, Mokokchung; and Mr. Kilepchiba, Sanitation Inspector, Mokokchung Municipal Council. Through their expertise and engagement with the community, the campaign aims to ensure greater public understanding and compliance with the new waste management regulations.
Through this initiative, the MMC seeks to advance the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and foster a cleaner, greener, and healthier Mokokchung through active public participation and environmental stewardship.
