Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway is inspired by the story of a feisty mother from Birati, Sagarika Chakraborty, who fought against Norway’s childcare system to get back her children. Sagarika Chakraborty's custody war for her two kids had hit the headlines, both in India and Norway, in 2012. Her predicament and unfairness, as well as cultural hatred, forced India’s Foreign Ministry to take part in the legal fight. Sushma Swaraj & Brinda Karat were instrumental in making it possible.
Sagarika not only battled for her kids, but also protected her ethnicity and the truthfulness of her nation, as shown in the movie.
Ashima Chibber has directed the movie beautifully showcasing the pain and struggle of a mother to win back her children. Rani Mukerji’s performance is exceptional. Rani essays the role of a Bengali mother in Norway with her family when the country forcefully and maliciously takes her children away and she battles for custody of them.
The movie’s supporting cast was brilliant. Neena Gupta, Jim Sarbh, Anirban Bhattacharya and Balaji Gauri have all carried their narratives to life.
For me it’s a brilliantly made film that touches your heart. One must go and watch this beautiful movie which will bring tears 😢 in everyone's eyes. The connection between a mother and her child have been beautifully portrayed. Overall a must watch!
