.0 The computer-aided VertiCam is an infrared real-time video eye-movement recording system, both with and without fixation serving as a very effective assistive tool for clinicians in accurately diagnosing and treating Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. It helps in assessing the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), which is crucial for stabilizing vision during head movements. Vestibular problems often result in abnormal involuntary eye movements known as nystagmus. The vestibular system, which senses head movement, maintains visual stability through the Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR). This reflex triggers eye movement in the opposite direction of head movement, ensuring a steady gaze during motion. Given the connection between the vestibular and oculomotor systems, any issues with the vestibular system can lead to abnormal eye movements.
Observing the patterns of these eye movements can distinguish between inner ear (peripheral vestibular system) issues and those related to the brain (central nervous system). Infrared Goggles play a crucial role in vestibular rehabilitation, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis.
