Not every business needs an agency. And honestly? Sometimes hiring one is the wrong move.
So how do you know what you actually need? đ
â Go with a FREELANCER when:
You have a specific task that needs to be done, graphic design, video editing, copywriting, website development, or even social media management.
You already have the strategy. You just need someone to execute a particular function.
â Go IN-HOUSE when:
Marketing is becoming a core, day-to-day function of your business and you need someone deeply involved in the brand.
If you have enough consistent work to justify a full-time role, and youâre prepared to manage, train and build a team, in-house can make sense.
â Go with an AGENCY when:
You need multiple pieces of marketing to work together.
Strategy + content + social media + branding + paid ads + SEO + analytics.
Instead of hiring five different people and trying to make everyone communicate, an agency can bring those functions under one strategy.
But hereâs the part businesses often miss:
Your problem might not be that you need an agency.
You might need a better strategy.
If your positioning is unclear, your offer isnât compelling, or you donât know who youâre targeting, throwing more content or money at the problem wonât magically fix it.
So before asking, âWhich agency should I hire?â
Ask:
âWhat exactly is my business missing right now, strategy, ex*****on, expertise, or an entire marketing function?â
That answer will usually tell you whether you need a freelancer, an in-house hire, or an agency.
Save this for the next time youâre deciding where to put your marketing budget.
