The Village That Vanishes and Returns — The True Story of Kurdi, Goa
Kurdi was once a living village in Goa, home to families, farms, and an old ancient temple. Everything changed in the 1970s when the government built the Salaulim Dam.
To complete the project, the entire village had to be evacuated.
By 1986, Kurdi was gone—submerged under deep waters.
A whole settlement, drowned forever.
Except… it wasn’t.
Every summer, for a few weeks, the water levels fall.
And something impossible happens.
Kurdi comes back.
Stone homes reappear.
The temple stands again.
Old pathways return.
People who once lived there walk through the ruins of their childhood.
But that isn’t the strangest part.
Locals claim they hear things.
Soft singing near the resurfaced temple.
Footsteps on the cracked lakebed.
Faint conversations… as if the village never left.
Some say it’s the wind.
Some say it’s memories trapped in stone.
And some say Kurdi isn’t done telling its story.
Every year, the village returns.
Every year, the voices are heard again.
And when the monsoon arrives—
Kurdi disappears beneath the water, all over again.
