Bittu Tabahi, whose real name is Surendra Singh Choudhary, has responded to YouTuber Dhruv Rathee’s criticism of his recent meeting with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

The 21-year-old, known for cleaning the heavily polluted Ajnar River in Biaora, met Yadav at his residence in Bhopal. The Chief Minister praised Bittu’s efforts and highlighted his initiative as an example of how individual action can inspire wider change.

Reacting to a video of the meeting shared on Yadav’s Instagram account, Rathee accused the government of trying to take credit for Bittu’s work and described the interaction as a “PR” exercise. He questioned what the government was doing for river cleanliness and said Bittu had done the work himself before being called for the meeting after his efforts went viral.

Bittu responded directly to Rathee, saying, “Credit lene ki baat nahi hai.” He said the government had appreciated his work earlier as well and stressed that the bigger issue was “civic sense”. He added that his aim was to encourage people to understand their responsibility towards cleanliness and come forward to contribute themselves.

The exchange has brought renewed attention to Bittu’s grassroots cleanliness campaign, as well as the debate over whether governments should be credited for supporting such individual-led initiatives.

Bittu Tabahi, whose real name is Surendra Singh Choudhary, has officially crossed the 1 million follower milestone. His journey from 200K to more than 1 million followers has been incredibly rapid, driven by the overwhelming support he received after his environmental work went viral.

The 20-year-old from Biaora, Madhya Pradesh, spent months single-handedly cleaning the heavily polluted Ajnar River. What began as a personal effort to restore his local environment has now inspired millions of people online.

At just 20, Bittu Tabahi stepped into a polluted river without gloves, boots, or even knowing how to swim - and decided to clean it himself.

On 26 January 2026, the BSc student from Madhya Pradesh began cleaning the River near a temple, removing plastic and waste that had turned parts of the river into a dumping ground.

He also started turning puja waste into compost and teamed up with friends to buy cleaning tools and dustbins.

The mission cost him around ₹30,000, and he even suffered hand infections along the way.

As his work reached thousands online, some people accused him of doing it just for likes.

But Bittu kept going.

His surname means "destruction." Today, he is trying to destroy something else water pollution.

Because sometimes, change begins when one person stops waiting for someone else to start.

Photography Manoj Patel viral post
