Amarnath Yatra Suspended from Pahalgam, Baltal Due to Inclement Weather
Srinagar, July 30: The annual Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Wednesday from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes as a precautionary measure due to continuous heavy rainfall, officials said.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said that the pilgrimage was halted following incessant downpours since early morning. “Yatra movement has not been allowed from either of the base camps — Baltal and Nunwan (Chandanwari),” he said.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, also confirmed that the prevailing weather conditions had severely impacted the movement of pilgrims. “In view of heavy rains in the Yatra area, it has been decided that no convoy shall proceed from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp towards Baltal or Nunwan on July 31,” he said, adding that updates would be shared with pilgrims as the situation evolves.
So far, over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave since the Yatra began on July 3.
