क्या है राजजात का अर्थ-
उत्तराखंड में जात का मतलब देव यात्रा से होता है. अर्थात नंदा राजजात का अर्थ है राजराजेश्वरी नंदा देवी की यात्रा. बताते हैं कि इस यात्रा की शुरुआत सातवीं सदी के आसपास हुई थी. यह वह समय था जब उत्तराखंड में आदि गुरु शंकराचार्य का आगमन हुआ और उन्होंने देश के चारों कोनों पर चार मठों की स्थापना की थी.
मां को ससुराल भेजने की यात्रा-
स्थानीय लोग बताते हैं कि ये यात्रा मां नंदा को उनकी ससुराल भेजने की यात्रा होती है. कहा जाता है कि एक बार नंदा अपने मायके आई थीं। लेकिन किन्हीं कारणों से वह 12 वर्ष तक ससुराल नहीं जा सकीं. बाद में उन्हें आदर-सत्कार के साथ ससुराल भेजा गया, जिसके बाद से इस यात्रा का चलन शुरू हुआ. मां नंदा का चमोली जिले में पट्टी चांदपुर और श्रीगुरु क्षेत्र को मां नंदा का मायका और बधाण क्षेत्र (नंदाक क्षेत्र) को उनकी ससुराल माना जाता है.
