The Silent ECHO, a 14-minute 37-second independent short film produced under the banner of Little Boy Film Production, has achieved Official Selection and Semi-Finalist status at the New York Global Short Film Fest, bringing recognition to a teacher- student led project from Sikkim.

Written, directed and edited by Barun Rai, a teacher at Jaubari Junior High School under Namchi District the film was shot entirely on an iPhone 13 in during April 2026 as a school project.

The film was created through the Prahari Club of Upper Jaubari Junior High School to spread awareness about Manodarpan, the Government of India’s tele-counselling initiative, while highlighting the importance of adolescent mental health.

The film features Kunzang Sherpa, Ongdup Sherpa, Barun Rai, and Sonam C. Sherpa in lead roles. Cinematography was handled by Sherap Dawa, make-up and art by Mingma Diki Sherpa, and colour grading by Samuel S***a.

Speaking to Sikkim Chronicle, director Barun Rai said that he had submitted The Silent ECHO to several national and international film festivals, hoping the film’s message would reach a wider audience.

“I had applied to many film festivals, including the New York Global Short Film Fest. I was delighted to receive an email confirming that The Silent ECHO had been officially selected and had also qualified as a Semi-Finalist. It is a proud moment for our entire team and encourages us to continue creating meaningful films on important social issues,” Rai said.

He added that the recognition demonstrates how even a low-budget independent film, made with limited resources but a strong message, can gain international appreciation.

The Silent ECHO focuses on the mental health challenges faced by adolescents and aims to encourage greater awareness, empathy and timely support for young people dealing with emotional and psychological issues.

अखिल सिक्किम ईसाई संगठन (ASCO)द्धारा वृक्षारोपण कार्यक्रम –जारीखोला बागेखोलामा सम्पन्न !

“पृथ्वी र त्यसमा भएका सबै थोक परमप्रभुकै हुन्।”

परमेश्वरप्रतिको कृतज्ञता र उहाँको सृष्टिको संरक्षण गर्ने साझा जिम्मेवारीलाई आत्मसात गर्दै, अखिल सिक्किम ईसाई संगठन (ASCO) ले १४ जुलाई २०२६ मा बागेखोला स्थित जारीखोलामा सफलतापूर्वक वृक्षारोपण कार्यक्रम सम्पन्न गर्यो, जसअन्तर्गत १९० वटा बिरुवा रोपियो।

यो अभियान सिक्किम सरकारको वन विस्तार (Afforestation) तथा वन संरक्षण सम्बन्धी पहलप्रति हाम्रो पूर्ण समर्थनको प्रतीक हो। रूख रोप्नु भनेको केवल एउटा बिरुवा रोप्नु मात्र होइन, भविष्यका पुस्ताका लागि हरियाली, स्वच्छ हावा, शुद्ध वातावरण र स्वस्थ जीवनको आधार तयार गर्नु हो। आज विश्वले जलवायु परिवर्तन (Climate Change) र विश्वव्यापी तापवृद्धि (Global Warming) को गम्भीर चुनौती सामना गरिरहेको छ। यस्तो अवस्थामा प्रत्येक बिरुवा आशा, जीवन र उज्ज्वल भविष्यको प्रतीक बनेर उभिन्छ।

“मेरो बिरुवा, मेरो पुस्ता” (My Plant, My Generation) भन्ने सन्देशले हामीलाई आज रोपेको एउटा बिरुवाले भोलिका सन्तति, समाज र राष्ट्रलाई जीवन, अक्सिजन, छायाँ र समृद्धि प्रदान गर्नेछ भन्ने प्रेरणा दिन्छ। परमेश्वरले सुम्पनुभएको सृष्टिको संरक्षण गर्नु प्रत्येक मानिसको पवित्र दायित्व हो।

यस अर्थपूर्ण कार्यक्रमका लागि बिरुवाहरू उपलब्ध गराइदिनुका साथै वृक्षारोपण स्थल उपलब्ध गराइदिनुभएको सिक्किम सरकारको वन विभाग प्रति हामी हार्दिक आभार तथा धन्यवाद व्यक्त गर्दछौँ। उहाँहरूको सहयोगले यस अभियानलाई सफल बनाउन महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेलेको छ।

यसैगरी, कार्यक्रममा सहभागी हुनुहुने सम्पूर्ण मण्डलीका अगुवा, युवा, स्वयंसेवक तथा सबै सहभागीहरूलाई उहाँहरूको समर्पण, मेहनत र सहयोगका लागि हार्दिक धन्यवाद व्यक्त गर्दछौँ। हामी सबै मिलेर हरित, स्वच्छ र समृद्ध सिक्किम निर्माणतर्फ एउटा महत्वपूर्ण कदम चाल्न सफल भएका छौँ।
