Father Jumps into River with 7-Month-Old Daughter in West Sikkim; Search Operation Launched

An incident has shaken the sikkim’s Legship area after a young man allegedly leapt into the river from the Gammon Bridge, holding his 7-month-old daughter.

Police teams from Geyzing and Legship responded swiftly, launching an extensive search and rescue operation with assistance from local organizations, particularly in the Khare Khola region where efforts are concentrated.

Authorities have prioritized the search in the fast-flowing river, though the motive behind the drastic step remains unclear. A preliminary investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Nawang Gyatso Bhutia known as the Butterfly Man of Sikkim, participated in the High-Altitude Butterfly and Biodiversity Meet held at Mechukha, Shi-Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh, on July 19–20..
He supervised one of the three research groups and also photographed the newly recorded butterfly species, contributing directly to this landmark discovery in Indian biodiversity.

65-Year-Old Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Co-Worker in Pakyong

Pakyong Police have arrested a 65-year-old man on charges of allegedly murdering his co-worker, 36-year-old Bijay Chettri, a resident of Namcheypong.

The incident occurred on July 24 at Pakyong Bazaar, where both individuals were employed as construction workers. Bijay Chettri’s body was discovered in the room they had been sharing.

SHO Pakyong Pradeep Chettri has stated that personal enmity appears to be the prima facie motive behind the murder.

The accused has been booked under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
