Construction in mountains is expensive and your raw material costs can increase by 25% or more because of transportation.

JCB cost: 1Lakh (including breaker and bucket to level the lan)

Retaining walls: 1.8L (labor mostly and little material cost)

Each Cement bag (after transport) is costing me nearly 120rs extra compared to Chandigarh/Delhi.

Sand and Gravel/Grit is costing 13,000 per truck (small tipper truck with loading capacity of 140 bags.

TMT bars are also costing 15% more as compared to Chandigarh.

One Block (8x8) is costing over 110 including carrier to my site 🤯🤯 The same block was costing less than 70 rs in Chandigarh 😭😭

Sure land is cheap in Himachal compared to Delhi. But construction is not.

And I took a little while to understand that.

I wanted to complete the construction and move in within a 12-lakh budget. But I failed. I think by the time the construction will complete, I’ll end up spending double the initial budget 🫣

I was born in Shimla but my parents decided to settle in Delhi. Cities were beautiful back then, with more opportunities — especially for young parents with kids. And mountains had little opportunities for better education.

But as I grew up, I realised mountains excite me.
For someone who likes adventure and open spaces, Himalayas can feel home.

And maybe that’s because a part of me had always belonged here.

What started as weekend escapes slowly turned into a dream. Then the dream became a goal. And before I knew it, I was standing on a piece of land in Himachal that I could finally call my own.

Looking back now, it almost feels like I had been manifesting this life all along.

Standing at over 3,400 metres, Hatu Peak is one of the highest points around Shimla and Narkanda. The drive itself is an adventure, winding through dense deodar forests before opening up to breathtaking 360° views of the Himalayas.

At the summit stands the beautiful Hatu Temple, dedicated to Maa Kali. Built in traditional Himachali wood architecture with intricate carvings, the temple is believed to be connected to the Pandavas from the Mahabharata. Local legends say that Bhima once cooked food here, and a giant stone stove near the temple is still known as *Bhima Chulha*.

Whether you’re visiting for the peaceful atmosphere, panoramic mountain views, photography, or simply to experience one of Himachal Pradesh’s most beautiful temples, Hatu Peak never disappoints. On a clear day, you can see snow-covered Himalayan ranges stretching far into the distance, making it one of the best viewpoints near Shimla.
