On Friday night (August 28, 2026), President Trump announced what he called “the biggest oil deal in world history.”
He said the U.S. has struck an agreement with Venezuela’s current interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez.
Under this deal, America would get majority control (around 55%) of a new private oil company that will develop 17 major oil fields in Venezuela.
Those fields hold about 65 billion barrels of proven oil — roughly one-fifth of Venezuela’s total reserves and more than the entire proven oil reserves of the United States itself.
