The practice of the Name turns us in the direction of the light. The practice of the Name removes the dust from our eyes so that we can see the world as it really is: lit up by the light of the guru.
- Krishna Das
Jeffrey Kagel Aka Krishna Das is an American artist who sings devotional songs, his style of singing and the environment he creates with it is unique in itself. But this is not the story of his artist side, this book tells story of the side that gives a direction to his whole life. In 1970s Krishna das travelled India and met a monk in the Himalayas - Neem Karoli Baba. Meeting baba and spending time at Kainchi changed Krishna Das life completely and he devoted himself to service of his guru. He sings and chants in memory and devotion of his master.

This book is a very intimate journey on author’s personal life, he discusses his thoughts, situation before visiting India, meeting with baba, returning to US and starting his singing journey. Krishna Das opens up his heart, leaves nothing behind, his love, his devotion for baba. Readers can learn not just one but so many lessons from this book. This book has some of the most amazing chapters I’ve ever read on love, relationships and power of chanting. This is an intimate exploration on path of Bhakti shown by a true guru. Neem Karoli Baba never “converted” someone to his way of devotion, never taught any kind of meditation, never preached anything unnecessary. His teaching primarily talk about doing good to others, having faith in God and chanting the name of the divine. This is such a brilliant book, a great journey within, an exploration of a lifetime. If you’ve read and loved autobiography of a yogi then this is the book for you. It reads life a song, beautiful devotional song, dedicated to baba and lord Hanuman 🙏🏽
