Vigilante Books is one of India’s youngest, fast-growing, independent publishing companies with one basic mantra – publishing must escape the clutches of market forces and return to the people. We don’t ask the question “will this sell?” of our books, but “is this a great story?”

We are a dedicated, passionate team of like-minded individuals from the media, academics, advertising, bureaucracy, a

nd publishing who came together for a common purpose –to stand up for the marginalized genres/people/writers in the Indian publishing industry and bring newer kinds of books to the Indian drawing-room. We believe market forces should not determine what gets published or read. Consequently, though we engage with traditional fiction modes too, we primarily encourage experimental work, newer sub-genres, novel ways of narration, and a “new” perspective on life. We are not limited by tags, forms, genres or classifications. Fiction and non-fiction, poetry and prose, equally captivate us. Books are not just “products” for us, to be placed as per their “target-audiences” and “specific-markets”. We are an alternative to the model of thought that perceives books (and people) from the prism of purchasing power alone. Books are not merely sources of profit generation for us at Vigilante Publications. Instead, they are creations of blood, tears and sweat of the author, babies that need to be nurtured, cared for, and then brought into contact with the world in systematic, phased manner.
