Siang Police Rescue Two Trafficked Minor Girls from Raipur; Accused Nabbed
In a swift and coordinated operation, Siang District Police successfully rescued two minor girls, aged 15 and 17, who had been trafficked to Raipur, Chhattisgarh, after being lured from their homes in Boleng under the false promise of employment. The accused, Mughaka Awomi (21), a resident of Dimapur, Nagaland, has been arrested in connection with the case, exposing the dangers of social media exploitation and human trafficking.
The case came to light on June 10, 2025, when Obuk Jerang filed a missing person complaint at Boleng Police Station after his 15-year-old daughter disappeared. The police registered a Missing Person Report (BLG/PS/MPR No. 01/25) and soon filed a formal trafficking case (BLG/PS/Case No. 20/25) under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Siang District, was alerted to ensure the protection of the minors.
Through meticulous technical surveillance, the police traced the girls to Raipur. In collaboration with Vidhan Sabha Police Station, Raipur, the team rescued both minors on June 15, 2025. The victims had been misled by false job offers made via social media. They were temporarily housed at Sakhi Saheli, a government-recognized shelter home, for safety.
A dedicated team led by SI Tanu Padung traveled to Raipur, took custody of the rescued girls, and arrested the accused. After obtaining a transit remand from JMFC, Raipur, the team safely brought the girls back to Boleng on June 20, 2025, where they underwent medical examinations and were handed over to the CWC for counseling and rehabilitation.
Investigations revealed that the accused, working as a cook in a Raipur restaurant, contacted the victims through social media, orchestrated their travel from Boleng to Raipur, and abandoned them without any job as promised. The police are probing deeper into possible links to a broader human trafficking network.
Siang District Police, under the leadership of SP JK Lego, with guidance from DySP Sange Tenzin and DySP Togum Gongo, urges parents to stay vigilant about their childrenโs online activities and educate them about the dangers of interacting with strangers on social media.
The operation team included SI Tanu Padung (OC Boleng PS), ASI Limi Karga (IO), Constable Prince Kumar Singh, and Lady Constable Pekgam Nyorak, who worked tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the victims and the arrest of the accused.
