|| Lakhimpur, Assam: In a major boost for wildlife conservation, a rare Black Panther has been captured on a camera trap for the first time in Dulung Reserve Forest under the Lakhimpur Forest Division.

The remarkable sighting was recorded during a regular camera-trapping survey conducted by a team of researchers monitoring wildlife in the reserve forest.

Wildlife experts say the presence of the elusive predator is a strong indicator of a healthy ecosystem and highlights the ecological importance of the forests located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas.

The discovery also demonstrates that even smaller reserve forests can play a crucial role in providing habitat and protection for large carnivores and other endangered wildlife species.
Conservationists have welcomed the sighting, calling it a positive sign for biodiversity conservation efforts in Assam and a proud moment for Lakhimpur's natural heritage.

A woman from Lakhimpur, identified as Sabita Das, has landed in legal trouble after a viral video showed a toddler sitting on her lap and holding the steering wheel while she drove a car in Guwahati.

Following the circulation of the video, a team from Khanapara Traffic Outpost traced Sabita Das and brought her before the police.

During questioning, she stated that the video was recorded near Beltola on June 2, 2026, and that the child seen in the video was her sister's daughter.

Police counselled her on the serious risks posed to child safety and road users by such reckless behaviour. Authorities have initiated legal action under Section 184(f) of the Motor Vehicles Act, and her driving licence has been seized for suspension proceedings.
