GOACAN has alleged that underground cable-laying work being carried out by the Electricity Department on NH-66 at Dramapur is continuing without mandatory road safety measures. According to the organisation, the worksite lacks essential safeguards such as warning lights for night-time visibility, contractor details and emergency contact information, potentially putting motorists and pedestrians at risk.

Despite repeated complaints, GOACAN claims the deficiencies remain unaddressed. The group has also questioned why the Traffic Police have not taken cognisance of the alleged violations and urged authorities to enforce road safety norms immediately.

Citizens for Democracy member Amar Gaonkar has alleged that officials of the Electricity Department issued misleading statements to the media following a hearing before the Human Rights Commission on the smart meter issue.

Gaonkar said the Commission had taken suo motu cognizance of the government's notification on smart meters and accepted the group's intervention application.

He clarified that the matter remains under consideration and that no final decision has been taken. According to him, the Commission decided to keep the case pending and has scheduled a further hearing, indicating that the issue is yet to be resolved.

Residents of Chimbel have given authorities a 10-day ultimatum to remove fencing and restore wetlands allegedly affected by work related to the proposed Unity Mall project.
