The MTV VMAs 2026 brought a night of major wins, with Madonna, Taylor Swift, BTS, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars and several other music stars taking home Moon Person trophies.

Madonna won Artist Of The Year, Best Dance, Best Long Form Video, Best Cinematography and Best Choreography, while Taylor Swift took Video Of The Year for “The Fate Of Ophelia”, along with the Artist Director Honor and Best Direction for “Opalite”. BTS won Song Of The Year and Best K-Pop for “Swim”, as well as Best Group. Other winners included Lisa, Cardi B, Olivia Rodrigo, Bad Bunny, Ella Langley, PinkPantheress and Sabrina Carpenter across various categories.

Veteran Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his memorable supporting and comic roles, died on Thursday after a battle with cancer. His son Mohsin confirmed that the actor passed away at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, at around 7 pm. Khan was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and had recovered, but the disease reportedly relapsed two weeks ago. Goan filmmaker Aditya Suhas Jambhale was honoured at the 72nd National Film Awards in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, where he received the Best Feature Film award for Article 370. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award during the ceremony held on September 22. The honour marks Jambhale’s third National Film Award. Marathi thriller Gondhal, written and directed by Santosh Davakhar, has been selected as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. The Film Federation of India announced the selection from 33 contenders.

Set in rural Maharashtra, the 117-minute film unfolds over a single night against the backdrop of the traditional Gondhal ritual and follows a woman whose attempt to escape an unhappy marriage leads to murder. Gondhal is the fourth Marathi film to be selected as India’s Oscar entry, after Shwaas, Harishchandrachi Factory and Court. India has not yet won the category.

Scientists have identified Leopardus tilcayo, a previously unknown wild cat species inhabiting Bolivia’s Yungas cloud forests, marking the first formal description of a new living feline species in more than a century.

The small tiger cat, which measures around 46 cm and weighs about 1.4 kg, was confirmed as genetically distinct after researchers analysed DNA from 38 cats across South America. The study found that its lineage diverged from other tiger cats around 1.4 million years ago. Researchers said little is known about its behaviour, though camera-trap records suggest it may be nocturnal. The species faces potential threats from deforestation, fires, agriculture and mining in the Yungas.

All remaining support acts on Ed Sheeran’s US tour have withdrawn after rapper Macklemore was removed from the lineup following pro-Palestinian remarks during his concerts in New Jersey. Among those leaving are Finneas, Irish singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe, Danish band Lukas Graham and Irish folk band Beoga.

Sheeran said Macklemore’s removal was the promoter’s decision and that he had tried to work with venues to keep him on the tour.

The departures followed Sheeran’s statement that he would not use his professional platform for politics. The controversy has drawn reactions from artists, Jewish groups and others over the role of political expression and the Israel-Gaza conflict at concerts.

Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, her family announced on Tuesday. The singer-songwriter, who rose from poverty in Tennessee to become one of the world’s most celebrated musicians, was known for timeless hits including “Jolene” and “Coat of Many Colors.”

Parton wrote around 3,000 songs during a career spanning six decades, including “I Will Always Love You,” later made globally famous by Whitney Houston.
