A political reunion, a viral map, and a billionaire’s empire - Mumbai’s BMC election just turned into a battle over Adani’s rise.

A dramatic Thackeray reunion on January 11, 2026, has turned the upcoming BMC elections into a direct confrontation with the BJP and billionaire Gautam Adani.

At a massive Mumbai rally, Raj Thackeray unveiled a viral digital map contrasting Adani’s modest 2014 presence with his sweeping 2026 dominance across airports, electricity, and the $3 billion Dharavi redevelopment project, accusing the government of “selling Mumbai” to Gujarat-based interests.

The attack taps into a broader national debate fueled by comparisons of Adani’s meteoric rise under Prime Minister Narendra Modi - from a $7B regional commodities player to a global infrastructure titan peaking above $100B, now controlling 25% of India’s airport traffic along with major stakes in cement, media (NDTV), and green energy.

Global pressure has intensified since a November 2024 US DOJ indictment alleged Adani paid $265 million in bribes to secure solar contracts, adding an international layer to a political storm now reshaping Mumbai’s electoral battlefield.

A new military breakthrough allows soldiers to manually filter high-salinity seawater into safe drinking water on the go.

The Defence Laboratory Jodhpur (DLJ), a DRDO facility in India, has developed the Sea Water Desalination System (SWaDeS) to generate potable water in coastal operational areas.

Designed to meet specific requirements from the tri-command services, the technology comes in two variants: an engine-operated unit capable of supporting 20–25 soldiers and a man-portable manual version for emergency use by 10–12 troops.

Both systems successfully reduce salinity from ≈35,000 mg/L TDS to safe levels under 500 mg/L TDS and can be deployed for use within just two to three minutes.

SWaDeS will supply clean drinking water to troops deployed in harsh environments, especially in areas where fresh water is scarce, such as the saline regions around Pangong Tso.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says India-US trade deal fell apart because PM Modi never called President Trump to seal it.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated in an All-In podcast interview on January 9, 2026, that an initial India-US trade deal was negotiated but collapsed because Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not personally call President Donald Trump to finalize it, despite Lutnick's urging.

He explained that India had three specific deadlines over several Fridays to close the deal at favorable tariff rates, similar to those offered to the UK, but delayed, allowing the US to sign higher-rate agreements with countries like Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam first.

By the time Indian negotiators returned weeks later, Lutnick said the original terms had expired, with the US stepping back, amid broader US pressures on India over Russian oil purchases and existing tariffs up to 50% on Indian exports.

India's Ministry of External Affairs countered on January 9 that Modi and Trump spoke eight times in 2025, with trade talks ongoing since February 2025 through multiple rounds.

Footage shows a Hamas terrorist attending a Lashkar-e-Taiba training camp as a chief guest in Pakistan.

Hamas representative and terrorist Naji Zaheer recently appeared as the chief guest at a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) training camp located in Gujranwala, Pakistan.

Video footage from the event shows Zaheer interacting with members of the Pakistan-based terrorist group, which was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

This public appearance highlights an increasing level of cooperation between the Gaza-based organization and LeT, raising significant concerns for international counter-terrorism agencies regarding cross-regional terrorist alliances.

U.S. stealth jets and electronic warfare reportedly bypassed Venezuela’s Chinese-built defense systems to capture Nicolás Maduro.

During the recent U.S. military operation "Absolute Resolve" in Caracas, Venezuela’s layered defense network heavily reliant on Chinese-made JY-27 "anti-stealth" radars and JYL-1 surveillance systems failed to detect or intercept incoming American aircraft.

Pentagon reports indicate that U.S. F-22 and F-35 stealth fighters, supported by EA-18G Growler electronic attack jets, effectively blinded the Venezuelan sensors, allowing special forces to extract Nicolás Maduro with zero U.S. casualties.

This high-profile failure has sparked intense scrutiny over the real-world effectiveness of Chinese military exports when facing advanced U.S. electronic warfare and stealth capabilities.

Over 200 parrots were found dead on the banks of the Narmada River this week.

Authorities in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, India, are investigating the sudden deaths of more than 200 parrots and other local birds found near the Narmada River as of January 2, 2026.

While initial fears pointed to a bird flu outbreak, veterinary post-mortems confirmed the cause was severe food poisoning likely caused by humans feeding the birds cooked leftovers, rice, and even stones.

Forest officials have now deployed staff and banned all public feeding at the site to prevent further casualties from toxic or improper diets.

India just test-fired two Pralay missiles from a single launcher in a major defense milestone.

The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a salvo launch of two "Pralay" tactical ballistic missiles from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

This mission utilized a single mobile launcher to fire the surface-to-surface missiles in quick succession, effectively validating the system's accuracy and lethality at ranges between 150 and 500 kilometers.

This test is a critical step for India’s tactical strike capabilities, as the "quasi-ballistic" nature of the Pralay makes it significantly harder for enemy air defense systems to intercept.

Arnab Goswami just shocked the entire nation by slamming the BJP over Delhi’s hazardous air crisis.

In a massive departure from his usual pro-government stance, Arnab Goswami has declared Delhi’s air pollution a "national health emergency" worse than COVID-19.

During a heated primetime debate on Republic TV, Goswami went after the BJP-led central government, leaving an empty chair for Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and launching the campaign to protest political inaction.

With Delhi’s AQI crossing 400 (Hazardous) this week, the anchor questioned why Prime Minister Modi has not directly intervened.

While some view this as a genuine return to watchdog journalism, others speculate the move is a tactical response to falling TRPs.

Regardless, the viral clips of Arnab "grilling" his usual allies have sparked a massive firestorm across social media.

A 25-year-old Hindu factory worker was lynched and set on fire over alleged blasphemy in Bangladesh.

A Hindu man identified as Dipu Chandra Das was brutally lynched by a mob in Mymensingh city, Bangladesh, on Thursday night. According to reports, the victim was beaten over alleged blasphemy, hanged from a tree, and his body was later set on fire on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

Horrifying footage circulating online shows members of the mob recording the brutal act on their phones as it unfolded.

The Bangladesh interim government has strongly condemned the "heinous crime," stating that the perpetrators will not be spared and that there is no space for such violence in the country.

James Cameron and SS Rajamouli discuss the future of cinema in a viral interaction ahead of Avatar 3.

20th Century Studios India has released a "Meeting of the Minds" conversation between Hollywood legend James Cameron and Indian auteur SS Rajamouli.

While the discussion primarily served to build anticipation for the upcoming Avatar installment, the dialogue featured a remarkable moment of mutual admiration.

Cameron expressed a keen interest in visiting the set of Rajamouli’s upcoming film starring Mahesh Babu playfully offering his services as a "second unit director."

"I’m gonna hold you to it. I’m gonna come to your set. You can give me a camera. I like to operate," Cameron remarked, joking that he would love to film sequences involving tigers.

Rajamouli, who revealed he was granted the privilege of being the first person in India to view Avatar: Fire & Ash, described the experience as transformative, stating he felt "like a child in the theatre."

This interaction not only underscores the growing global influence of Indian cinema but also highlights the strategic marketing push for Avatar within the Indian market.
