Department of School Education Poonch Organises Camp for Specially-Abled Students at Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi
Poonch, September 26:
The Department of School Education, Poonch, under the component of Inclusive Education, organised a special camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) at Boys Higher Secondary School, Mandi. The camp was aimed at extending support and facilitating assistive devices to specially-abled students to ensure equal access to education and opportunities.
In collaboration with ILMCO, free wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, artificial limbs, and other assistive devices were distributed among deserving students. A total of 42 CwSN benefited from this noble initiative.
The event was graced by Chief Education Officer Poonch, Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed Manhas, as the Chief Guest. Zonal Education Officer Mandi, Mr. Anwar Khan, and Zonal Education Officer Sathra, Ms. Noorin Naqvi, were the Guests of Honour.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Haroon Rashid, Senior Lecturer, who extended greetings to the dignitaries, participants, and parents. Mr. Mushtaq Khan, District Nodal Officer Inclusive Education, provided a comprehensive overview of the programme, outlining the government’s commitment to empowering children with special needs through education and welfare schemes.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anwar Khan, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi, highlighted the significance of Inclusive Education and explained its provisions for CwSN. He emphasized the need to create an enabling environment where every child, irrespective of physical or mental challenges, can access quality education and thrive alongside their peers.
In his address, Chief Education Officer Poonch, Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed Manhas, appreciated the efforts of ZEO Mandi, Mr. Anwar Khan, for successfully organising the event and ensuring maximum participation. He lauded the Department’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and urged parents and students to avail themselves of the various government schemes designed for their benefit. He further stressed the importance of focusing on quality education and skill development for specially-abled children to enable them to lead dignified and independent lives.
The programme was attended by Saouda Begum, Resource Person (CwSN), zonal coordinators, faculty members, and parents. The presence of community members further added to the spirit of inclusivity and cooperation.
The camp concluded with the distribution of assistive devices to students, followed by lunch served to all participants and escorts of CwSN, reflecting the Department’s commitment not just to education but also to the well-being of students.
This initiative stands as a testament to the Department of School Education, Poonch’s dedication towards building an inclusive educational ecosystem, ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge and growth.
