Department of School Education Poonch Organises Camp for Specially-Abled Students at Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi

Poonch, September 26:
The Department of School Education, Poonch, under the component of Inclusive Education, organised a special camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) at Boys Higher Secondary School, Mandi. The camp was aimed at extending support and facilitating assistive devices to specially-abled students to ensure equal access to education and opportunities.

In collaboration with ILMCO, free wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, artificial limbs, and other assistive devices were distributed among deserving students. A total of 42 CwSN benefited from this noble initiative.

The event was graced by Chief Education Officer Poonch, Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed Manhas, as the Chief Guest. Zonal Education Officer Mandi, Mr. Anwar Khan, and Zonal Education Officer Sathra, Ms. Noorin Naqvi, were the Guests of Honour.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Haroon Rashid, Senior Lecturer, who extended greetings to the dignitaries, participants, and parents. Mr. Mushtaq Khan, District Nodal Officer Inclusive Education, provided a comprehensive overview of the programme, outlining the government’s commitment to empowering children with special needs through education and welfare schemes.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anwar Khan, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi, highlighted the significance of Inclusive Education and explained its provisions for CwSN. He emphasized the need to create an enabling environment where every child, irrespective of physical or mental challenges, can access quality education and thrive alongside their peers.

In his address, Chief Education Officer Poonch, Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed Manhas, appreciated the efforts of ZEO Mandi, Mr. Anwar Khan, for successfully organising the event and ensuring maximum participation. He lauded the Department’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and urged parents and students to avail themselves of the various government schemes designed for their benefit. He further stressed the importance of focusing on quality education and skill development for specially-abled children to enable them to lead dignified and independent lives.

The programme was attended by Saouda Begum, Resource Person (CwSN), zonal coordinators, faculty members, and parents. The presence of community members further added to the spirit of inclusivity and cooperation.

The camp concluded with the distribution of assistive devices to students, followed by lunch served to all participants and escorts of CwSN, reflecting the Department’s commitment not just to education but also to the well-being of students.

This initiative stands as a testament to the Department of School Education, Poonch’s dedication towards building an inclusive educational ecosystem, ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge and growth.

Celebrating Freedom:
Parivartan NGO Inspires Young Minds on Independence Day

15th August 2025:
Independence Day was celebrated with great zeal and emotion by Parivartan (Change We Need), an NGO working for the upliftment of underprivileged children. The celebration aimed to instill patriotism, inspire young minds, and give them a platform to showcase their talents.

Around 80 children participated in the event, which featured a moving skit on the lives and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters. The performance left the audience inspired and deepened the children’s understanding of the value of freedom.

The day also saw age-wise competitions including patriotic song and dance, flag drawing and decoration, and a fancy dress contest. Winners were felicitated with prizes to recognise their efforts and encourage them further.

The event’s success was made possible by the dedication of young volunteers — Balram, Shailender, Nandini, Dhanraj, Aman, Armaan, Aarti, Neeharika Dixit, Aarav Dixit, and Harshil Raina ,and the committed Parivartan team Shipra Shrivastav, Aindri Shrivastav,Madhu Modgil, Geetanjali Rao Yadav, mrs Santosh Modgil and Shalini Singh. Mrs Santosh Modgil was the chief guest.

President of Parivartan, Ms. Romi Sharma, shared, “Every year we celebrate Independence Day with the same spirit to remind our children of the sacrifices behind our freedom. These programs not only strengthen their patriotic values but also give them a chance to explore and present their hidden talents.”

The celebration concluded with the national anthem, sweet distribution, and a shared pledge to contribute towards the nation’s growth.

POONCH, Aug 12: The Poonch District Volleyball Association conducted its elections under the supervision of Krishan Lal Sharma, Retired Divisional Sports Officer of the J&K Sports Council and former Secretary of the District Volleyball Association.
The election was held in strict adherence to the latest guidelines outlined in the Model Election Guidelines of the Sports Code-2011, issued by the J&K Sports Council and Volleyball Association of J&K.
A total of 12 affiliated volleyball clubs from across the district participated in the voting process. The elections were conducted transparently and smoothly, ensuring fair representation for all involved.
The office bearers were unanimously elected for the Poonch District Volleyball Association include Dr. Udesh Pal Sharma as President; Ab Majeed Dar and Imtiaz Salaria as Vice-Presidents; Mohd Tariq as Secretary; Nirdosh Kumar Sharma as Treasurer; and Balkrishan Sharma and Deepak Sharma as Joint Secretaries, along with other executive members.
Following the elections, the newly appointed office bearers nominated Shri Krishan Lal Sharma, a senior legend and National Volleyball player, as the Chairman of the Association, recognizing his vast experience and contribution to the sport.
The newly elected team expressed their commitment to the development and promotion of volleyball in the Poonch district. They assured that with renewed energy and fresh initiatives, they would work towards elevating the sport’s stature and providing better opportunities for athletes at the grassroots level.
This election marks a positive step towards revitalizing volleyball activities in Poonch and fostering a vibrant sporting culture in the region.
