Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi and Poonch Police Join Hands to Combat Drug Abuse Among Youth

In a significant step towards curbing the rising menace of drug addiction among youth, Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi, in collaboration with Poonch Police, organised an impactful Awareness Programme on Drug Addiction within the school premises. The event was held under the overall supervision and guidance of Mr. Anwar Khan, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi, and witnessed active participation from students, staff members, and local dignitaries.
The programme aimed to sensitize students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and equip them with knowledge to safeguard themselves and others from falling prey to this growing threat.
Mr. Jalal Din Fani, District Inspector Reserve, and Dr. Nargis, Incharge Drug Rehabilitation Centre Poonch, were the keynote speakers of the event. They brought with them both field experience and medical expertise, providing a holistic understanding of the issue.
Mr. Jalal Din Fani in his insightful address spoke about the legal, social, and economic dimensions of drug abuse. He explained the strict legal provisions against drug trafficking and possession, while also highlighting how drug addiction affects not just the individual, but entire families and communities, leading to social degradation and economic hardship.
Dr. Nargis, through a thought-provoking presentation, delved into the health-related issues of substance abuse. He discussed common symptoms of addiction, behavioral changes, and the importance of early identification and rehabilitation. Dr. Nargis also elaborated on the support available through rehabilitation centers and urged students to act as ambassadors of awareness in society.
Mr. Anwar Khan, Principal of the Institution, in his address, shed light on the social stigma associated with drug addiction which often hinders families from seeking timely help. He also spoke about the manipulative strategies used by drug peddlers to trap young minds and emphasized the crucial role of parents, teachers, and peer groups in early identification and prevention. He encouraged the students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or activity related to drug abuse.
Anwar Khan extended heartfelt thanks to SSP Poonch Mr. Shafkat Wani and Chief Education Officer Poonch Mr. Iftkhar Ali Shah for their continued support and for facilitating such meaningful outreach initiatives for the benefit of students and the wider community.
The programme was efficiently conducted by Mr. Haroon Rathore, Vice Principal, who also highlighted the importance of organising such awareness events in schools to protect the future generation from destructive habits.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session where students asked questions and shared their thoughts, making it a truly engaging and informative experience. The initiative was widely appreciated by the participants, and the school management pledged to continue organising similar programmes in the future for student wellbeing.
