Thousands of teachers. Empty classrooms. Zero students.

West Bengal has recorded the highest number of schools reporting zero student enrolment, even as teachers remain attached to these institutions, according to UDISE+ 2025–26 data.

The numbers raise serious questions about school infrastructure, resource allocation and the way public education is being managed.

India’s BRICS strategy is moving on multiple fronts.

With senior leaders engaging key capitals ahead of the September 12–13 Summit, New Delhi is sending a clear message: talk to everyone, protect strategic autonomy, and let no single rivalry dictate India’s choices.

Diplomacy, on India’s terms.

A massive flash flood triggered by a glacial avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border has caused widespread destruction across central Nepal, killing 163 people and leaving over 750 missing, including 133 Indian pilgrims.

The disaster began after a powerful landslide near the Nepal-Tibet border generated a seismic signal equivalent to a 5.2-magnitude earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey.

The landslide sent a huge volume of ice, rock, mud and water into the Lhende Khola, a tributary of the river Bhote Koshi. Sunil Sharma, a spokesperson for Nepal’s tourism board, said 133 Indian pilgrims travelling towards Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet, a major pilgrimage site for Hindus, were missing.

The Asian Weaver is known for its remarkable nest-building skills, weaving strands of grass into intricate hanging nests near water.

During breeding season, the male’s striking golden-yellow plumage makes him easy to spot as he works tirelessly, carefully threading and tightening each strand to create a secure home.

What looks like a simple nest is actually a remarkable feat of natural engineering — built entirely by beak and instinct.

Nature has its own master builders.

Vande Mataram: National Symbol or Political Fault Line?

A song that once became a rallying cry for India’s freedom struggle is now at the centre of a political and ideological debate.

Is Vande Mataram bigger than the politics around it? Or has the debate over its stanzas become another fault line in India’s polarised politics?

Our two POVs examine the song’s history, the 1937 compromise, religious sensitivities, nationalism, Viksit Bharat and the question of whether patriotism should ever become a test.

Two perspectives. One national symbol. Read both and decide where you stand.

From Red Corridor to Democracy Corridor.

For decades, fear and Maoist violence kept government officials away from large parts of Bastar and other Left-Wing Extremism-affected regions. Villages remained uncounted, disconnected and, in many ways, invisible to the state.

Now, census enumerators are returning to more than 100 villages that could not be properly counted during the 2011 Census.

This is more than counting people. It is about restoring administrative presence, bringing communities into official records and creating the foundation for welfare, infrastructure, education and healthcare to reach those who were left out.

When a citizen is counted, they become visible to governance.

And in regions once defined by insurgency, that visibility is a powerful sign of democracy returning.

A road that doesn’t just cross the mountains — it moves with them.

The iconic Bagrakote Loop Bridge in West Bengal winds dramatically through the Himalayan landscape, creating a striking blend of engineering and terrain.

Inaugurated on April 24, 2025, the NH-717A structure provides an important alternative route towards Sikkim, strengthening connectivity through one of India’s most challenging terrains.

Where infrastructure meets the mountains, the journey itself becomes a spectacle.
