पुण्यातील गणपती अनेक गणपती मंडळांसाठी मूर्तीकार कैलासवासी श्री. नागेश शिल्पी यांनी मूर्ती घडवण्याचे काम केले आहे. त्याकाळी हा गणपती ‘दगडूशेठ हलवाई, बाहूलीचा हौद, सार्वजनिक गणपती’ म्हणून प्रचलित होता. सन १९६८-सन १८९६ साली केलेल्या मुर्तीची थोडी जीर्ण अवस्था झाली होती व सन १९६७ साली गणपती बाप्पाच्या अमृतमहोत्सव साजरा झाला. नविन गणपतीची मुर्ती बनविण्याचा संकल्प झाला त्यासाठी कर्नाटकचे प्रसिद्ध शिल्पकार श्री. शिल्पी यांनी त्यावर काम केले दरम्यान शिल्पी पंडित यांनी सांगितले होते हा गणपती पुढे जाऊन खूप प्रसिद्ध होईल आणि आज आपण पाहतो आपल्या बाप्पाचं दर्शन घेण्यासाठी लांबून लांबून लोक पुण्यात येतात .
