At an important United Nations forum in Geneva, two Ahmadi women activists - Shazia Asif and Sitara Barooj Akbar addressed a global audience on the critical link between education and human rights. Both speakers have roots in Rabwah, Pakistan, and represented the Ahmadiyya Community on an international platform.
The event was held under the UN Human Rights Council Social Forum, focusing on how education plays a key role in promoting dignity, equality, justice, and social inclusion. The forum brought together UN officials, government representatives, and civil society leaders from around the world.
Shazia Asif spoke about how education empowers individuals to understand their rights, participate in decision-making, and hold leadership accountable. She emphasized that education is not only a basic right, but the foundation upon which all other human rights can thrive.
Sitara Brooj Akbar, a globally recognized education activist, highlighted the struggles of children who are out of school due to conflict, poverty, or lack of documentation. Drawing from her personal journey and experience mentoring hundreds of children, she called for flexible and inclusive education systems that can reach every child, regardless of circumstances.
