MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed, on Thursday expressed concern over the ongoing closure of prominent tourist destinations in Kashmir due to security reasons. While speaking to the media, he emphasized that tourism is the backbone of the region’s economy and that extended restrictions are negatively impacting livelihoods dependent on the sector.

He specifically highlighted the continued closure of the scenic Bangus Valley in the Handwara area of Kupwara district, which remains inaccessible to tourists.

Sheikh Khursheed appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, to consider reopening Bangus Valley for tourists. He said, “If not immediately, the government should at least ensure that Bangus is reopened for tourism after the conclusion of the Amarnath Yatra.”

The MLA underlined that a balanced approach is needed to ensure both security and economic stability in the region, urging authorities to take swift measures to revive tourism activities in North Kashmir.
