District Administration Ramban Organizes Mahila Disaster Management Awareness Program
Ramban, September 20: Preparedness for disaster management is equally important for women, stated Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, while addressing participants at a Mahila Disaster Management Awareness Program held at Ramban.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Tehsildar Headquarters Dr. Reejuta Mahajan and BDO Headquarters Shalini Chandel and various other officers participated in the event.
The programme was organized by the District Administration Ramban with the aim of strengthening disaster preparedness at the grassroots level. The initiative focused on sensitizing women about disaster preparedness, response, and recovery through awareness, training, and active community participation.
Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the enthusiastic participation of women and acknowledged their vital role as first responders within families and communities during emergencies. He emphasized that empowered women mean prepared families and resilient societies.
In his address, the ADC said that the District Administration will continue to organize such awareness and training programmes to build a disaster-resilient district with strong community involvement.
During the programme, resource persons from SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, and Disaster Management conducted practical demonstrations and training sessions on emergency response, first aid, evacuation procedures, and rescue techniques. Women participants were also educated on the do’s and don’ts during natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and landslides.
Special emphasis was laid on the importance of forming community-led disaster task groups and the proactive role of women in ensuring safer families and stronger communities. The event also served as a platform for Mahila Samvad (discussion and suggestions), where women shared their views and ideas to further enhance disaster preparedness.
Earlier, Tehsildar Headquarters and BDO Headquarters conducted interaction sessions and sensitized the participants about the need for such training besides clearing their doubts.
