Lieutenant Governor pays obeisance to sacred relics of Lord Buddha at Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery at Elista, Kalmykia, Russia
Srinagar, October 18: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha paid obeisance to sacred relics of Lord Buddha brought from India and enshrined at the Central Temple, Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery, also known as “the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” at Elista, Kalmykia, Russia.
The Lieutenant Governor is leading the delegation to bring back holy relics of Lord Buddha after a week-long exposition in Elista. During the interaction with revered monks, the Lieutenant Governor said the fondness which the people of this city and those from far corners of Russia have shown towards the Lord Buddha’s relics is a rare gesture which has left an indelible mark in our hearts.
“As you know, the holy relics of the Buddha are considered as the Buddha himself and his coming here, amounts to his blessing the people of Kalmykia and the whole of Russia. India takes pride in the principles and teachings of the Buddha. His message of compassion, wisdom and non-violence remain more relevant than ever. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has always reiterated the relevance of Buddha’s teachings in the modern world and continues to emphasise this aspect at different international forums reminding the world of Buddha's timeless wisdom,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor also observed that the message of the Buddha along with his teachings should get more embedded in societies especially among the youth.

CM Omar Abdullah Reaffirms Commitment to Statehood Restoration, Says Delay Known Only to BJP

*Tariq Yousuf*

Kulgam, Oct 17, CNS: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday reiterated that his government is making consistent efforts for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, expressing optimism that the Centre will soon grant the powers that were taken away, though the delay, he said, is known “only to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Kulgam, Omar said statehood was a solemn promise made to the people and should have been fulfilled long ago. “We were hoping that the Centre would restore statehood within a year. We don’t know why there is a delay — only the BJP knows. But our fight for it will continue,” he remarked.

On the revival of the biannual Darbar Move, the Chief Minister said that his government has stood by every commitment made in its manifesto. “I made it clear from day one that whatever promises we made to the people of the Union Territory, we will fulfill them. The Darbar Move was one such promise, and since 2021, it has been restored,” he said.

Omar also confirmed that a cabinet sub-committee led by Sakeena Itoo had completed and submitted its final report on the new reservation framework. “The report has been approved. The cabinet memo is being prepared for circulation and will soon be sent to the Lieutenant Governor for approval,” he added.

Addressing the concerns of farmers affected by crop losses, the Chief Minister said the administration is actively working on a relief package for those impacted by recent weather fluctuations. “Wherever there has been damage to agricultural or horticultural crops, assessments have been completed. Talks with the Centre are underway for a relief package similar to those given to other states. Jammu and Kashmir also deserves such a package,” Omar said.

When asked about the revocation of FIRs registered during the COVID-19 restrictions, Omar said his government would take up the matter once full administrative powers, including law and order, are restored. “Law and order is not with the elected government right now. Once we regain those powers, we will fulfill our other promises as well,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Chief Minister in a post on social media platform X said that Omar Abdullah took a detailed round of stalls set up by various departments in Kulgam, which showcased key government schemes, welfare programmes, and development achievements.

“Chief Minister interacted with officials and beneficiaries, appreciating the efforts towards ensuring citizen-centric governance and effective service delivery,” the post said.

Omar Abdullah’s visit to Kulgam, which comes amid renewed political discourse on statehood and representation, has reinforced his government’s stance on autonomy, development, and inclusive governance across Jammu and Kashmir. (CNS)

Aijaz Ahmed Khan Appeals for Restoration of Old Darbar Move System in Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu, Oct 15:
Senior leader and former Minister Ch. Aijaz Ahmed Khan has urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to restore the traditional Darbar Move system, calling it an integral part of the region’s administrative heritage and a vital bridge between the two capital cities — Srinagar and Jammu.

In a statement issued to the press, Khan said that the historic practice of shifting the civil secretariat and other key offices between the two capitals not only symbolized the unity and inclusiveness of the erstwhile state but also ensured equitable development and accessibility for people from both regions.

> “The Darbar Move was not merely a logistical exercise but a unique symbol of administrative balance, emotional integration, and cultural harmony between Jammu and Kashmir. Its discontinuation has widened the emotional and administrative gap between the two regions,” Khan remarked.

The former minister said that under the old system, people from remote districts of both divisions got a fair opportunity to interact with the top officials and decision-makers twice a year. This, he said, promoted transparency, accountability, and a sense of belonging among citizens.

He further argued that the suspension of the Darbar Move has led to centralization of power in one location, adversely affecting the public grievance redressal mechanism. “Many developmental and administrative matters now face unnecessary delays as officers remain inaccessible to large sections of the population,” he added.

Khan also emphasized the economic impact of the old practice, noting that the movement of thousands of employees and their families between the two capitals used to boost local business, transport, and hospitality sectors. “It was a lifeline for traders, transporters, and daily wagers who are now facing serious economic losses,” he said.

Appealing to the Jammu and Kashmir Government Khan urged that a review committee be constituted to assess the feasibility of restoring the Darbar Move in a modernized, cost-effective manner that respects tradition while ensuring administrative efficiency.

> “Our heritage must not be sacrificed at the altar of convenience. The Darbar Move was the soul of J&K’s governance ethos — it represented our unity in diversity,”
