On the third day of Navratri, we worship Maa Chandraghanta. According to the Shrimad Devi Bhagavata Purana, her form teaches us not only ritual worship, but also the right way to live life:

โ€‹1.๐Ÿ“ฟ Balance of Peace and Courage

The cool half-moon on the Mother's forehead is a symbol of peace, while the weapons in her hands represent courage. This teaches us to always remain peaceful and gentle from within, but also to have the courage to stand up against unrighteousness or wrongdoing.

2. Freedom from Fear

This form of the Goddess grants fearlessness (abhaydaan). No matter how difficult situations may be in life, if we have truth and righteousness in our hearts, we should never panic or worry because of any fear.

โ€‹3. Elimination of Negative Energy

The divine sound of the Mother's bell keeps away evil forces and demons. In daily life, this means we should eliminate negative thoughts, laziness, and anger from within ourselves and embrace positive energy (positive vibes)

โ€‹4. Mental Concentration and Self-Control

According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, the worship of Maa Chandraghanta stops a restless mind from wandering. Her form inspires us to focus on our goals and maintain control over our minds.

๐ŸŒบThe Srimad Devi Bhagavatam discusses the origin and importance of the different forms of Navadurga in detail.

When Maa Parvati performed extremely rigorous penance to attain Lord Shiva as her husband divine transformations occurred in her form.

When the form appeared with a half-moon shaped like a bell glowing on her forehead, she was named 'Chandraghanta.

According to the shrimad devi Bhagavatam the half-moon on her forehead radiates coolness, nectar, and ultimate peace, while her bell produces a divine sound that terrifies negative forces and demons.

While describing the meditation on the Goddess, the Devi Bhagavatam mentions her ten arms (dash-bhuja) and divine weapons:

Ten Arms: The Mother has ten arms, ready to protect devotees in every direction.

๐Ÿ”ฑ๐Ÿ“ฟWeapons: Her hands hold a trident (trishul) mace (gada) sword (khadga) bow and arrow (dhanush-baan) lotus (kamal) kamandal, and a bell.

All these weapons symbolize that the Goddess possesses the supreme power to remove all the sorrows of the world.

According to the Devi Bhagavatam, a seeker who worships Maa Chandraghanta with complete devotion and discipline on the third day of Navratri receives the following blessings:

Destruction of Fear and Evil: Worshipping her destroys all fears, crises, and enemies of the seeker.

Concentration of the Mind: The half-moon and the sound of her bell calm a restless mind and infuse it with divine energy.

This form of the Goddess is extremely benevolent and affectionate to her devotees, instantly granting them fearlessness (abhaydaan).

Goddess Brahmacharini is the presiding deity of penance, self-control, and celibacy. According to the Puranas, if someone worships the Goddess with show-off or ignores the rules instead of having pure feelings, the Goddess can become displeased.

โ€‹Let's find out from the perspective of Devi Bhagavatam what things can make Goddess Brahmacharini angry:

โ€‹1. Becoming arrogant or prideful during spiritual practice

โ€‹The Devi Bhagavatam repeatedly emphasizes that a pure and humble heart is dearest to the Divine Mother. If you start feeling proud of your fasting, chanting, or penance, or consider yourself superior to others, all your efforts become wasted.

โ€‹2. Impurity and deceit in mind and thoughts

โ€‹Goddess Brahmacharini's form is completely calm and pure. According to the Puranas, if you perform the rituals correctly on the outside, but hold jealousy, hatred, deceit, or anger towards anyone in your heart, the Goddess does not accept such worship.

โ€‹3. Disregarding rules and resolutions

โ€‹Goddess Brahmacharini is a symbol of discipline and strong determination. If you take a vow for a special fast, rule, or chanting during Navratri and break it midway without a valid reason, it is considered against the Goddess's discipline.

โ€‹4. Tamasic tendencies and violence

โ€‹Goddess Adi Shakti is the mother of compassion and righteousness. During the days of her worship, it is necessary to practice non-violence in thought, speech, and action. Consuming tamasic food, holding negative thoughts, or causing pain to any living being can make the Mother extremely angry.

๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ“ฟAccording to Devi Bhagavatam, the greatest way to please Goddess Brahmacharini is not external show, but purifying your character by burning away your inner flaws.

The Practice of Penance: 'Brahma' means penance, and 'charini' means the one who practices it. Therefore, the goddess who is absorbed in penance is Brahmacharini.

Her form inspires us to practice patience, sacrifice, detachment, and strong determination in life.

In the Srimad Devi Bhagavata Mahapurana, there is a divine description of the forms of Adi Shakti Jagdamba and her Navratri worship. On the first day of Navratri, it is prescribed to worship Goddess Shailputri, the daughter of the Mountain King Himalaya and the first form of Goddess Durga.

โ€‹According to Devi Bhagavata, Goddess Shailputri represents primordial nature and consciousness. Any devotee who remembers this first form of the Divine Mother with a pure heart attains stability, unshakable courage, and supreme peace in life.
