The 3-cylinder engine is spreading fast. Swift, Baleno, Dzire - all have downsized. But if you value refinement over fuel economy, a few 4-cylinder hatchbacks are still on sale.

WHAT’S CHANGED:
Old 4-cylinder replaced by new 1.2L 3-cylinder Z-Series engine
Driveability has changed - needs more RPM management
Better fuel efficiency than before

CITY DRIVING:
Light clutch, easy to use
Slight vibration in floor and steering (especially with AC on)
Needs downshifting in traffic
AMT feels smoother than manual for city use

HIGHWAY DRIVING:
Overtakes need downshift (sometimes 2 gears down)
Power zone is 4000-5000 RPM
Engine vibration felt at high RPMs
Good for family cruising, not for performance

MILEAGE (Real-World):
Highway: ~20 kmpl
City: 13-14 kmpl

ADAS:
Adaptive Cruise Control works well
Lane Keep Assist effective
Auto-rearms every time you start the car

COMFORT:
Suspension plush and comfortable
Road noise controlled up to 80 km/h
Wind noise minimal
