Sangno Clan Completes Landmark Fish Translocation Mission, Seeks Five-Year Fishing Ban on Richaso Stream.
WESHI, On July 7 2026: In a community-led conservation initiative, members of the Sangno clan of Weshi village under the Pakoti Administrative Circle in East Kameng district successfully completed the translocation of 129 fingerlings of the endangered Schizothorax pelzami, locally known as Ngarsing in the Nyishi language and commonly called Marinka
On the first day, the team successfully translocated 52 fingerlings from Lapabung Stream to Richaso Stream. On the second day, an additional 77 fingerlings were safely translocated, bringing the total number of fish relocated to 129.
Following the successful conservation effort, the Sangno clan appealed for a five-year ban on fishing in Richaso Stream to allow the endangered species to establish a healthy breeding population and ensure its long-term survival.
