Pravin Sharma, Social Activist, has made a suggestion to the Government of Sikkim, the Rural Management and Development Department (RMDD), and the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding the poor condition of roads across the state.
Recently, the Government of Sikkim announced an investment of ₹546 crore to upgrade approximately 570 km of roads across the state. This is a respectable and welcome step.
However, while constructing and upgrading these roads, the government must ensure transparency and accountability. The commission system must be stopped, and strict monitoring should be put in place to ensure that the allocated funds are used properly.
Only by eliminating corruption and ensuring quality work can the people of Sikkim and the state government get durable, safe, and high-quality roads in return for such a significant public investment.
