The Silchar Gang R**e
Two suspects have been arrested following the gang r**e and extortion of a 28-year-old woman in Silchar, Assam, which occurred on the night of February 19, 2026.
Case Details
Incident:
The victim and her fiancรฉ/partner were parked in a car along the Silchar bypass (Ramnagar/Chengkuri area) when they were confronted by 7โ8 men in an SUV (identified as a Mahindra Thar).
Assault:
The men allegedly held the partner at knifepoint and r**ed the woman one by one.
Extortion: After the assault, the perpetrators forced the couple to transfer โน10,000 via UPI to one of their accounts and reportedly stole a gold ring.
Legal Action:
An FIR (No. 177/26) was registered at Silchar Sadar Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for gang r**e (Section 70(1)), extortion, dacoity, and criminal intimidation.
Current Investigation Status
Arrests: Two individuals, Nilotpal Das (25) and Subol Das (27), both residents of Silchar, have been arrested after being identified by the victim
