MP Raju Bista-Led Delegation Meets CM Suvendu Adhikari; Raises Issues, GTA Corruption Probe Assured
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today led a delegation of MLAs from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong, along with leaders of alliance parties, to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to discuss key issues concerning the Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars.
The delegation highlighted long-pending concerns of tea and cinchona garden workers. Bista said the Deputy Chairman of the Tea Board of India will visit Darjeeling next week to initiate steps in this regard. The team also underlined the need to secure rights for residents of forest villages and DI Fund land.
Healthcare infrastructure, quality education, safe drinking water for every household, and improved road connectivity to remote villages were among other issues raised. Disaster mitigation and management was also discussed in view of recurring landslides and floods. The Secretary, Department of Disaster Management, has been directed to visit the region for detailed discussions, Bista said.
The delegation demanded a thorough investigation into alleged corruption in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and other local bodies. It flagged irregularities in Har Ghar Jal, AMRUT, TeacherтАЩs Recruitment, Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), PMGSY, PMAY, and other State and Central schemes.
тАЬThe HonтАЩble Chief Minister has assured that a Special Audit of GTA and Municipalities in the hills will be undertaken,тАЭ Bista said in a press release.
According to Bista, CM Adhikari mentioned the Interlocutor appointed by the Central Government to take forward dialogue and said that ensuring peace, development, and the rights of the people of the region are among his top priorities. The Chief Minister gave тАЬpositive assurances on all issues,тАЭ he added.
тАЬWe are confident that under his dynamic and decisive leadership, and guidance, justice for the people of the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars will be ensured,тАЭ Bista stated.
The meeting was attended by West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal, Principal Secretary GTA, District Magistrates of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, and other senior government officials.
