India Got This Machine 🇮🇳 | The ASML Deal That China Can’t Get

India just signed an $11 billion semiconductor deal that could become one of the most important technology moves in the country’s history. At the center of this story is ASML, a company from the Netherlands that builds the world’s most advanced lithography machines — the machines responsible for printing the tiny circuits inside modern computer chips.

What makes this so important? Every major chip giant, including TSMC, Samsung, and Intel, depends on ASML technology. Without these machines, producing advanced semiconductors at scale becomes nearly impossible.

But there is a catch.

While the world’s most advanced chips are now being manufactured at 2nm using ASML’s cutting-edge EUV machines, India’s Tata Dholera semiconductor fab will begin with ASML’s DUV machines. These machines are capable of producing 28nm to 110nm chips — technologies that may sound old, but still power millions of products around us, including automobiles, EV battery systems, industrial equipment, power management systems, telecom infrastructure, and consumer electronics.
