“Shivkhola” translates to “Shiva’s Stream” (Khola means stream in the local Nepali language), and the river is considered sacred.
Shivkhola Shiv Mandir, located near Rongtong in the Darjeeling district, is an ancient, revered cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, nestled in the Himalayan foothills alongside the peaceful Shivkhola River. According to local lore, the temple originated from a naturally formed lingam within a cave. It is considered a deeply spiritual and serene,, offbeat spot, surrounded by dense forests and offering a tranquil retreat.
