Believe it or not, our star is so enormous it could fit about 1.3 million Earths! That’s because the Sun’s diameter is roughly 109 times that of Earth.

Yet despite its size, the Sun doesn’t have a solid surface, just a roiling sea of plasma, so don’t even dream about a sun side stroll. 😉

Canada is facing an extreme wildfire season this year. 🔥🛰️

As of August 6, 4,130 wildfires have been reported, burning more than 6.8 million hectares – an area almost the size of New Brunswick. Most of this total was recorded in Saskatchewan (2.4 million ha) and Manitoba (1.5 million ha). For comparison, 4.8 million hectares were burned in all of 2024, meaning 2025 has already surpassed that by 2 million hectares.

Wildfire activity is expected to continue this summer, fuelled by above-normal temperatures and intensifying drought. More than ever, satellites play a crucial role in monitoring wildfires by providing real-time data and imagery that help track fire activity and assess environmental impacts.
