A New Chapter for Madwan: MLA Hilal Akbar Lone Inaugurates PHC After 15 Years, Flags Off 108 Ambulance Service

Sonawari 1 September: Ending a wait of nearly fifteen years, MLA Sonawari Hilal Akbar Lone on Tuesday inaugurated the newly established Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Madwan, marking a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare services for the local population.

On the occasion, the MLA also dedicated a 108 Emergency Ambulance to the people, ensuring quicker access to emergency medical care and improving healthcare connectivity in the area.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior citizens, local residents, health officials, and public representatives.Former Sarpanch Razia Rather was also present and welcomed the long-awaited healthcare facility describing it as a major relief for the people of Madwan and adjoining villages.

Speaking on the occasion MLA Hilal Akbar Lone expressed gratitude to all departments,engineers, officials and healthcare staff whose dedication and coordinated efforts made the project a reality. He appreciated their commitment and said that public welfare remains the government's top priority.

"The inauguration of this PHC and the availability of a 108 ambulance reflect our commitment to ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for every citizen.I sincerely thank every department and official who contributed to completing this important project," the MLA said.

Residents and senior citizens welcomed the inauguration with enthusiasm, stating that the health centre will save patients from travelling long distances for basic medical services and emergency treatment. They expressed hope that the facility would continue to be equipped with adequate staff, medicines, and modern healthcare services.

The inauguration was widely hailed as a landmark achievement for Madwan, bringing long-awaited healthcare infrastructure closer to the people and fulfilling a demand that had remained pending for over a decade.

Apni Party Stages Protest Against 6.83% Power Tariff Hike, Demands Immediate Rollback

Srinagar, Sept. 1: Apni Party Spokesperson Ishrat Bhat, accompanied by women party members, on Tuesday staged a strong protest against the Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to increase electricity tariffs by 6.83 percent, describing the move as an unjust burden on the common people already struggling with rising living costs.

Holding placards and raising slogans, the protesters demanded the immediate rollback of the power tariff hike, asserting that the decision would severely affect middle-class families, daily wage earners, traders, and economically weaker sections across the Union Territory.

Addressing the media, Ishrat Bhat said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are already facing inflation and financial hardships, and imposing an additional increase in electricity bills is both insensitive and unacceptable. She maintained that instead of providing relief to consumers, the government has chosen to increase their burden.

"The common people deserve affordable electricity and meaningful relief, not another hike in utility charges. Every increase in tariffs directly impacts household budgets and makes daily life even more difficult," she said.

The women members of the party also expressed concern over the impact of the tariff hike on families, stating that women often bear the responsibility of managing household expenses and will be among the worst affected by rising electricity bills.

The protesters urged the administration to reconsider the decision in the larger public interest and immediately withdraw the revised tariff. "Promises Ran Dry, So Did the Water": Prang Residents Demand Completion of Long-Pending Filtration Plant, Former Sarpanch Says Villagers Continue to Suffer Without Safe Drinking Water

Bandipora August 30:The residents of Prang and its adjoining villages have once again raised their voice over the prolonged drinking water crisis, alleging that despite repeated appeals to the authorities, they continue to live without access to safe and adequate drinking water.Calling the situation deeply unfortunate, the villagers said that even in 2026, they are struggling to secure one of the most basic necessities of life.

Former Sarpanch Ratha Raiza said the people of the area have been enduring immense hardship due to the lack of a functional water supply system. She said it is heartbreaking that while development is being claimed across Jammu and Kashmir, the residents of Prang are still waiting for clean drinking water.

"We are dying for water. It is 2026,yet we are still struggling for something as basic as clean drinking water. Forget clean water, we are not even receiving enough water for our daily needs," she said, expressing frustration over the continued neglect of the area.

Highlighting the unfinished infrastructure, he said that during her tenure as Sarpanch, work on a filtration plant under the Jal Jeevan Mission was initiated under her supervision with the aim of ending the drinking water crisis in Prang and nearby villages. However, after her tenure ended, the project remained incomplete and has since been abandoned, leaving thousands of residents without the intended benefits.

According to her, the villagers made repeated efforts to contact the contractor responsible for the project, but their concerns went unanswered.She further stated that several representations were also submitted to the LG administration, urging the authorities to ensure the completion of the filtration plant, but no meaningful progress has been witnessed on the ground.

Expressing disappointment with the present government, she alleged that the local MLA Sonawari Hilal Akbar Lone has failed to address the long-pending issue despite repeated attempts by the residents to seek his intervention. She claimed that several promises were made before the Assembly elections regarding the development of the village and improvement of basic amenities, but the promises have not translated into visible action.

The residents said the lack of safe drinking water has severely affected their daily lives, forcing families to depend on unreliable and inadequate water sources. They stressed that access to clean drinking water is a fundamental right and urged the government to treat the issue with urgency instead of allowing the project to remain incomplete.

The villagers have appealed to the LG administration, the Jal Jeevan Mission authorities, the Public Health Engineering Department, and the local elected representatives to immediately resume and complete the long-pending filtration plant. They said the people of Prang and surrounding villages deserve the same basic facilities available elsewhere and should no longer be forced to wait for a project that was initiated years ago but never completed.

An appeal is being made to the people of Sonawari and surrounding areas not to use the water of the River Jhelum for drinking,cooking or any other domestic purpose until further notice.

We also urge the District Administration Bandipora to take immediate steps to clean the river.The garbage and waste currently visible in the Jhelum is reportedly flowing downstream from the Srinagar and Sumbal sides.

Residents are strongly advised to stay away from using this contaminated water for drinking or any other household needs until the river is properly cleaned and declared safe.
