Srinagar, July 07: Crescent Public School in Naseem Bagh, Srinagar, has officially cancelled its earlier decision to charge students for air conditioner (AC) usage in classrooms.

The now-withdrawn order (No. CPS/211/Adm., dated July 7, 2025) had directed students to pay Rs 150 each for AC expenses during the ongoing heatwave. However, after facing strong criticism from parents and the public, the school has taken back the order.

The school said the decision to withdraw the charges was made in the best interest of students and parents.

Srinagar July 7: The education minister Sakina Itoo on Monday said that all the educational institutions across Kashmir will reopen after summer vacations on Tuesday

In an exclusive conversation with Greater Kashmir, Sakina Itoo said the schools falling under municipal areas of all districts, from primary to class 12th will function from 7:30am to 11:30am.She further said that the schools in other rural areas will function from 8am to 12noon respectively.

But the students after reaching home will take one hour break and attend online classes for two hours," the education minister told Greater Kashmir.

AdvertisementShe further clarified that no extension has been granted in summer vacation. "The schools will reopen on Tuesday (July 8)," she said.

Pulwama, July 05: A police head-constable lost his life on Saturday after being hit by a tipper vehicle near CTC Lethpora on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
An official told that the deceased has been identified as Head Constable Yeshpal Singh, a resident of Jammu, who was posted at CTC Lethpora.

The tipper, bearing registration number JK01Q-2816, struck the constable while he was walking along the road near the camp. He died on the spot, official said.

Decision on Summer Vacation Extension Likely on Sunday: Education Minister Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, Jul 5 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Education Minister, Sakina Itoo, on Saturday said that the government will take a final decision on the possible extension of summer vacations on Sunday, keeping in view the ongoing heatwave that has gripped the region.

Speaking to reporters, Sakina Itoo acknowledged the growing concerns from students and parents alike, saying the department has been receiving numerous calls requesting the government to extend the summer break. “We have received a lot of phone calls from worried parents and students urging us to consider an extension in summer vacations due to the persistent heatwave,” she said.

The Education Minister as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust, however, noted that a formal decision would be taken after assessing weather conditions on Sunday. “We are monitoring the situation very closely. If the heatwave persists tomorrow, we will announce an appropriate decision in the interest of children’s health and well-being,” she added.

Expressing concern over the intense weather, Sakina Itoo said she hoped for rainfall and divine mercy. “We pray for rain and hope Allah shows mercy upon us. The well-being of our students remains our top priority,” she said.

The Kashmir Valley has been witnessing unusually high temperatures over the past several days, prompting repeated appeals from various quarters for an extension in the summer holidays. The existing break, announced earlier for government and recognized private schools, is currently scheduled to end tomorrow (Sunday). KNT

The last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and hit stranded vehicles at the Chanderkot Langer site, damaging 4 vehicles and causing minor injuries to 36 Yatris. The District Administration, already present at the site, immediately shifted the injured to DH Ramban. DC Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan, DIG DKR Shridhar Patil, SSP Ramban Kulbir Singh, and ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak rushed to the hospital, monitored treatment, and directed the CMO to ensure the best possible care. The Yatris were later shifted to other vehicles for their onward journey

Srinagar welcomes the first batch of Amarnath Yatris with warmth & devotion

DDC Chairperson, DC Srinagar & SSP Srinagar welcome pilgrims at PanthaChowk

Srinagar, July 02 : In a warm gesture of hospitality, the Srinagar district administration led by DDC Chairperson, Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo along with Senior Superintendent of Police Sundeep Chakravarthy on Wednesday warmly welcomed the first batch of Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims as they arrived at PanthaChowk in Srinagar.

This followed the formal commencement of the annual yatra which was flagged from Jammu by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, as part of the significant spiritual journey undertaken by the devotees every year to the holy Amarnathji cave.

Deputy Commissioner & SSP personally received the pilgrims and extended greetings besides ensuring all arrangements are in place for their comfort and safety.

DDC Chairperson, DC, SSP & Officials from the District Administration Srinagar, along with senior Officers from SMC and Police Department were present at the reception site to assist and guide the pilgrims. The administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth and secure yatra experience for all devotees.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stated that the Amarnathji Yatra is a significant spiritual journey and we are committed to ensure smooth conduct of the pilgrimage with safety and comfort of all pilgrims. He added that the District Administration Srinagar along with Srinagar Police has put in place comprehensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual Yatra and cater to the needs of the pilgrims.

Officials along with locals welcomed the Pilgrims and prayed for smooth, safe and peaceful conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

Transport Commissioner inspects driving test centre, RTO office Srinagar

Srinagar, July 2 : Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, today conducted a comprehensive visit to Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir, here at Bemina.

The Commissioner interacted with the citizens waiting in queues, raising awareness about the Transport Department's online and faceless services. He encouraged them to leverage these digital platforms to streamline their transactions and minimize visits to the RTO office.

He instructed the ARTO Headquarters to prominently display the signboards and informational material, highlighting the availability and advantages of online services, so as to raise awareness among the general public. He reiterated the department’s commitment towards minimizing the footfall at the RTO office by promoting digital access and ensuring ease of service delivery through faceless platforms.

Earlier, the Transport Commissioner inspected the trial ground located at Bemina and monitored the driving tests being conducted there. Interacting with the youngsters, he urged them to be careful while driving besides strictly abiding by the traffic laws.

He directed the staff to ensure that those who appear for the driving test are guided properly. He also asked them that the test results should be uploaded online within 24 hours.
