4 people killed, 2 others injured as vehicle plunges into 300-500 ft gorge in Ramban

Jammu, July 11 (GNS): Four people were killed and two others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled about 300-500 feet deep gorge in Ramban district on Friday.

Officials told GNS that the accident occurred near Senabathi Dabdrora when a Tata Sumo (JK14C-2038) en route from Senabathi to Ukhral skidded off the road and plunged into the gorge approximately 300 to 500 feet deep.

They said four among the six passengers onboard the vehicle died and two others sustained injuries in the accident.

Those travelling in the vehicle were identified as Tawqeel Ahmed son of Ghulam Bhat of Gujrara Senabathi, Abdul Latief son of Ghulam Hussain, of Lel Khill Bengara, Shakeel Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid, Yawar Ahmed son of Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohammad Rafiq son of Ahmad and Ajaz Ahmed Bhat son of Nissar Ahmed, all residents of Gujrara Senabathi.

Earlier, soon after the accident, rescue teams besides locals responded swiftly, and all injured were evacuated and shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for treatment, they added.

Meanwhile, District Administration Ramban expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of the four precious lives in the accident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” District Administration Ramban said in a post on ‘X’.

“An assistance of ₹1 lakh is being provided to each deceased’s family and ₹25,000 to each injured person,” the post reads, adding, “all possible support is being extended to the affected families.”

*2 terrorist aides arrested in Tral: Police*

Awantipora, Jul 03 (KNO): Police along with security forces on Thursday arrested two terrorist associates from Wagad area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Tral and recovered explosive substance, ammunition from their possession.

“Police Awantipora along with Army (42 RR) and CRPF (180 Bn) at a checkpoint established at Wagad crossing, arrested two terrorist associates. They have been identified as Umer Mohi-ud-Din Bhat S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din R/o Nader Tral and Shakeel Ahmad Sheikh S/o Gh. Hassan Sheikh R/o Kuchmulla Tral,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

During the search, explosive substance, ammunition including 02 Hand grenades, 59 live rounds of AK-47, 01 AK 47 Magazine and incriminating material was recovered.

It is pertinent to mention here that, both the arrested terrorist associates were involved in providing logistics support and transportation of arms & ammunition to the active terrorists of proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad in Tral and Awantipora areas of Police District Awantipora.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 86/2025 under relevant sections of law have been registered in PS Tral and investigation has been initiated—(KNO)

10-days summer break for Kashmir schools from July-01: Edu Minister Itoo

‘School timing changed from Saturday’

Srinagar, June 19 (KNO): Amid soaring temperatures, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister, Sakina Itoo Thursday said that the private and government schools in Kashmir division shall observe ten days summer break from July-01.

Besides, the minister also said that the government has decided to change the timing of schools from Saturday.

Speaking exclusively with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Itoo said, “In view of the severe heatwave, summer vacation for schools in Kashmir division will be from July-01 to July-10.”

The minister further said that the government will review the weather conditions after July-10 and will take the call of extending the vacation accordingly.

“After July-10, we will review the weather conditions and take the call of extension of vacation accordingly,” she said.

About the change in school timing, the minister said, “From Saturday, the school timing in Srinagar municipality limits areas will be from 8Am to 1Pm and in case of schools outside the Srinagar municipality limits, the schools shall function from 8:30 Am to 1:30 Pm.”—(KNO)
