Special Budgam-Katra train to operate for 15 days

Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNO): In view of heavy pressure due to single-lane traffic in Udhampur on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and restrictions on traffic movement, the railway authorities have decided to operate a special train between Budgam and Katra.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the service, Vastodom Special, will remain functional for 15 days, starting from September 19 till October 3.

They said the service is temporary till the road gets fully restored, with stoppages en route. The decision has been taken to provide relief to local passengers, who are facing inconvenience due to the closure of the Jammu–Srinagar highway.

“The special train has been scheduled keeping in view the difficulties being faced by people. Our priority is to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for passengers during the highway restrictions,” an official said—(KNO)

*Wife dies, husband injured in HMT accident

Driver arrested, vehicle seized’

Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNO): A woman died while her husband was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle at Umerabad HMT near Noora Hospital in Srinagar on Thursday evening, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a husband-wife duo, residents of Umerabad HMT, was hit by a speeding vehicle while they were crossing the road.

He said both the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment, where the woman succumbed to her injuries.

The duo was identified as Fahmeeda (50), wife of Bashir Ahmad, and Bashir Ahmad (55).

Moreover, police have taken cognisance of the incident—(KNO)

Police Awantipora Seeks Public Help in Tracing Missing Person

Awantipora, 17 September 2025:Police Station Pampore received a written complaint from Smt. Shameema Banoo, resident of Khankahbagh Pampore, stating that her husband Mohammad Rafiq Bhat (aged about 50 years), son of Abdul Rafiq Bhat, resident of Khankahbagh, Frestabal, Pampore, has been missing from his home since 14 September 2025.

Cracks developed around the bund at Katipora Chersoo, constructed on the Canal, due to rising floodwaters.

In a swift response, a police team headed by SDPO Awantipora alongwith SHO PS Awantipora , IC Police Post Toll Plaza and civil administration after hectic efforts, safely shifted the family residing near the bund to a safer location. The timely intervention averted any untoward incident and ensured the safety of the affected family.

Awantipora Police assured the local residents of continued support and urged people to remain cautious.

Leopard Mauls 5-Year-Old to Death in Awantipora

Srinagar, Sep 6 (KNC): A minor girl, was mauled to death in a leopard attack at Midoora area of Awantipora on Saturday, officials said.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Corner --- KNC that the girl identified as 5-year-old, Tanzeela daughter of Mohd Rushan Khan resident of Gujar Basti Midoora Tral awantipora Pulwama.

The girl was attacked by wild leopard and left her dead body in nearby forests of Midoora after the massive searches the dead body was recovered, he said.

The tragic incident has triggered fear among residents, who have urged the Wildlife Department to take immediate steps to curb the growing threat of wild animals in the locality. (KNC)

Drug Peddler arrested in Awantipora ; he**in Recovered.

Awantipora 06 September 2025: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Awantipora Police have arrested one drug peddler and recovered he**in from his possession.

During naka checking at Awantipora , Police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO PS Awantipora Inspector Ajaz Hamd and IC PP Toll Plaza under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora apprehended 01 person identified as Shakeel Ahmad Lone S/O Manzoor Ahmad Lone R/O Lethpora.
The arrested person was moving in a suspicious circumstances during search, officers were able to recover 2.9 grams of he**in like substance from his possession.

The arrested drug peddler has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Case FIR Number 188 / 2025 under relevant sections of NDPS stands registered at Police Station Awantipora.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
