*Anantnag Police Arrests 7 Drug Peddlers, Recovers 3.173 Kg Narcotic Substances*
Anantnag, September 19, 2026:
Continuing its war against the drug menace, Anantnag Police has arrested seven drug peddlers in separate incidents and recovered a total of 3.173 Kg of narcotic substances.
In the first case, a police party from Police Station Srigufwara apprehended three drug peddlers at Hatigam Crossing while they were travelling on a Scooty bearing registration number JK13K-5967. The accused were identified as Jahangir Ayoub S/o M. Ayoub Fashoo R/o Zirpara, Bijbehara, Amanul Azam S/o Ab. Waheed Dar R/o Dogripora, Awantipora and Sahib Amin S/o M. Amin Dar R/o Dogripora, Awantipora. During search, 1 Kg 378 grams of G***a and 12 grams of Charas were recovered from their possession. In this regard, FIR No. 85/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Srigufwara.
In another action, two drug peddlers were apprehended by PS Srigufwara at Nowshara Crossing. They were identified as Basit Rashid Bhat S/o Ab. Rashid R/o Hugam and Mujeeb Mudasir Bhat S/o Mudasir Mukhtar R/o Khiram Durpora. 1 Kg 740 grams of G***a was recovered from their possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 86/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Srigufwara and further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, Police Post Sherbagh apprehended Mohd Rafiq Mochi S/o Habib-ullah Mochi R/o Furrah, Mirbazaar at Sarnal Chicken Mohalla on High Ground Road. During search, 20 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. FIR No. 317/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Anantnag and investigation set into motion.
In another incident, Police Post Sangam apprehended Muna S/o Makho R/o Kehri Lakempora, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in the Sangam area while he was attempting to flee. During search, 23 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. FIR No. 268/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Bijbehara and investigation taken up.
Anantnag Police reiterates its firm resolve to dismantle the drug network and take strict legal action against those involved in drug trafficking and peddling.
