Tourists Raise Concerns Over Overcharging and Cleanliness Issues in Doodhpathri

Budgam Insider

Budgam, June 1 2026: While the increasing influx of tourists to Doodhpathri is being viewed as a positive sign for the region's tourism sector, several visitors have raised concerns over overcharging by service providers and the deteriorating cleanliness conditions at the popular tourist destination.
Tourists visiting the scenic meadow alleged that operators of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and horse rides are charging fares significantly higher than expected, leading to inconvenience and dissatisfaction among visitors. Many tourists said the absence of clearly displayed and uniform rates has created confusion, with visitors often paying varying amounts for similar services.
Several tourists also expressed concern over the poor sanitation standards in the area. According to visitors, horse dung, plastic waste, and other litter can be seen scattered across various locations, adversely affecting the natural beauty of Doodhpathri and contributing to environmental pollution. They said the lack of proper waste management and regular cleaning has diminished the overall visitor experience.
Tourists urged the authorities to take immediate measures to regulate service charges and improve sanitation facilities to preserve the destination's reputation as one of Kashmir's premier tourist attractions.
Responding to the concerns, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Doodhpathri Development Authority, Riyaz Ahmad Beigh, said that the administration is actively working to enhance tourist facilities and maintain a clean and welcoming environment in the area.
He informed that official rates for ATV rides and horse services will soon be prominently displayed at designated locations to ensure transparency and prevent overcharging. The CEO further stated that the authority is strengthening its cleanliness and sanitation initiatives, with special focus on regular cleaning drives, waste management, and maintaining the ecological balance of the tourist destination.
Officials expressed hope that these measures will improve the overall experience for visitors while preserving the natural charm and beauty of Doodhpathri.
