The cancellation of Qazi Taqeer’s Tachar show is yet another reflection of the deep-rooted hypocrisy in our society. As Kashmiris, we seem comfortable with wine shops opening around us, with drugs reaching our youth, with fashion shows during Ramadan, with outside artists being invited to perform here, and with foreign businesses taking over our hotels, clinics, hospitals and institutions. We tolerate Bollywood, Coke Studio Pakistan, Every Day Music in our cars , Money being pumped into others sports like cricket and Football ,cinema halls, and even open shirk happening in Kashmiri, School music events ,dance competitions, every ones KIDS, are in these schools , irony no one talks about it , no damn posts or guts to utter a word, no media coverage ,no fatwas nothing but when our own Kashmiri brothers try to perform or contribute, we suddenly raise objections.
This selective morality has cost us dearly our tourism industry is collapsing, horticulture and agriculture are in decline, our food industry is suffering, our civic sense is fading, and our natural resources are being exploited. A society that normalizes contradictions and double standards is destined to struggle, because Allah does not judge from one angle. He considers the collective state of a nation.
Im not here to support a particular artist or this event ,but its about thousands of artists in Kashmir. The artists are a reflection of a state ,our poets , our artisans , our handicrafts. We are loosing everything. People are happy and enjoying the miseries of others. We are celebrating setbacks of others. This is not a good thing.
We Kashmiris have axed ourselves, becoming divided and selfish. If we continue on this path, the destruction will only worsen, until we are left with nothing but regret. May Allah guide us, unite us, and have mercy on all of us. Ameen.
