BANDIPORA — A devastating incident struck the Nadihal community on Sunday after a father and son were swept away by a water body in the Surrinder area of Bandipora.
The emergency unfolded rapidly, triggering an intensive, coordinated rescue mission. Teams consisting of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, and local volunteers rushed to the scene to locate the missing duo against challenging conditions.

New Delhi, May 22: A punishing heatwave has firmly locked northern, central, and eastern parts of India in its grip, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue critical severe weather alerts. Punishing daytime temperatures peaking above 45°C—including a blistering 46.4°C in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district—have forced regional administrations to enact emergency public health and scheduling countermeasures.
According to the weather agency, these extreme conditions are statistically projected to persist across the plains of Northwest India, Central, and East India for at least the next six to seven days.
