Remembering a Guiding Light: 10th Death Anniversary of Late Abdul Khaliq Dar, ‘Abah Jaan’

SRINAGAR, August 9: On the solemn occasion of the 10th death anniversary of Late Abdul Khaliq Dar, affectionately remembered as Abah Jaan, I pay tribute to a remarkable soul whose life was defined by faith, compassion, humility and selfless service.
Abah Jaan was more than a respected member of Anjuman Tabligh-ul-Islam J&K. He was a bridge between hearts, a man whose wisdom and warmth brought people together and whose presence often turned moments of disagreement into opportunities for understanding and reconciliation.
Whenever differences arose, he had a rare ability to calm troubled minds and soften hardened positions. His measured words, gentle disposition and instinct for harmony made him a trusted voice among those who sought to resolve conflicts with dignity and mutual respect. He believed in bringing people closer rather than allowing differences to drive them apart.
His generosity was equally remarkable. Without seeking recognition or publicity, he extended financial, emotional and moral support to widows, orphans, underprivileged families and countless others confronting hardship. His assistance was often quiet and discreet, but its impact was profound.
Among those who were privileged to receive his support were my brother and I. During our academic struggles, Abah Jaan stood firmly by us, offering not only financial assistance but also the encouragement, confidence and hope that helped us navigate difficult times. His faith in us became a source of strength and played a meaningful role in shaping our future.
Ten years after his passing in August 2017, his absence continues to be deeply felt. Yet, the true measure of a life is not merely in the years one lives but in the lives one touches, the burdens one quietly helps carry and the values one leaves behind.
Abah Jaan left behind a legacy that transcends memory: a legacy of kindness without expectation, generosity without publicity, unity without prejudice and service without self-interest. His life remains a reminder that the most enduring acts of goodness are often performed quietly, away from recognition and applause.
On this solemn day, I pray that Allah (SWT) blesses Late Abdul Khaliq Dar with His infinite mercy and grants him the highest مقام in Jannat-ul-Firdous. May Allah accept his good deeds, forgive his shortcomings and grant patience and strength to all those who continue to cherish his memory.
Though Abah Jaan departed this world a decade ago, the light of his character continues to guide those whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on not in monuments, but in the hearts he comforted, the lives he strengthened and the bonds of brotherhood he helped preserve.
