Next 24 Hours Crucial for J&K, Residents in Low-Lying Areas Urged to Stay Alert: MET Director Dr. Mukhtar
Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Tuesday sounded a warning over the rising water levels in the Jhelum river and its tributaries following continuous rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant, especially those living in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
Director MET Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, cautioned that water levels in the middle and lower stretches of the Jhelum are expected to rise till Tuesday evening before showing signs of decline.
“Due to continuous rainfall in the Jammu region over the past week, the water level in rivers and nallas has significantly increased. People residing in vulnerable low-lying areas must remain cautious and take necessary precautions,” Dr. Mukhtar said.
“The next 24 hours are crucial for the entire Union Territory,” he added.
