Botshah Mohalla, Lal Bazaar, 2nd of August 26: The Central Market Shopkeepers & Traders Association, Bota Shah Mohalla, Lal Bazaar, Umer Colony, attended a condolence meeting and expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family of Late Ghulam Rasool Shah, a resident of Botshah Mohalla, Lal Bazaar.

During the meeting, members of the association paid rich tributes to the deceased and presented a formal condolence resolution to the family as a mark of solidarity, respect and support during their time of grief.

The condolence meeting was also attended by Abdul Majeed Khan, Vice President, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association, who conveyed his profound sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Members expressed solidarity with the family and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased Maghfirah and the highest place in Jannah, while bestowing patience and strength upon the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

Sikh bagh, Lal Bazaar, July 11: Continuing its crackdown against narcotics and drug trafficking, Police Station Lal Bazaar on Saturday seized a double-storey residential house located in Sikh Bagh, Lal Bazaar, valued at more than ₹1.20 crore, under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to police, the property is constructed over eight marlas of land and belongs to Zamin Makhdoomi, son of Fayaz Ahmed Makhdoomi, a resident of Sikh Bagh, Lal Bazaar.

The action was taken during the investigation of FIR No. 16/2026, registered at Police Station Lal Bazaar under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Police said that during the course of the investigation, the property was found liable for attachment under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, following which the competent legal process was initiated.

The attachment proceedings were conducted peacefully in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, Eidgah, and in accordance with due process of law.

Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to taking stringent legal action against individuals involved in narcotics-related offences. Police said such measures are aimed at dismantling the financial infrastructure of drug trafficking and depriving those involved of assets allegedly acquired through illicit activities.

The public has also been urged to share credible information regarding drug peddling and other criminal activities, with police assuring that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.

Amdakadal Lal Bazaar, 5th July: A devastating fire broke out in the Amda Kadal area of Lal Bazaar, Srinagar, on Wednesday, gutting one residential house and partially damaging another, officials said.

The blaze triggered a swift response from the Fire & Emergency Services, which rushed to the spot and launched an operation to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

According to initial reports, one residential house was completely gutted, while another suffered partial damage in the incident. There were no immediate reports of any loss of life or injuries.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further details are awaited.

Umer Colony, Lal Bazaar, July 2: A residential house was gutted in a fire that broke out in Gousia Lane, Umer Colony, Lal Bazaar, on Thursday, triggering a major firefighting operation by the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES).

According to officials, the blaze erupted at the residence of Rayaz Ahmad Tramboo, son of Late Ghulam Mohammad Tramboo, causing extensive damage to the second storey of the house. Fire Station Hazratbal was the first to respond to the emergency, with fire tenders from Fire Station Nowshehra and Fire Station Babdemb subsequently deployed to reinforce the operation.

The firefighting operation proved particularly challenging due to the absence of a motorable road leading to the affected house. Firefighters were forced to lay multiple hose lengths to transport water from a distant point, while the lack of a nearby water source prompted the Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters to dispatch water bowzers to ensure an uninterrupted water supply throughout the operation.

During the operation, Fireman Zahoor Ahmed Shah (Belt No. FM-1281), son of Ghulam Rasool Shah and posted at Fire Station Hazratbal, sustained injuries while battling the blaze. He was immediately shifted to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Lal Bazar for medical treatment.

Following sustained efforts by the firefighting teams, the blaze was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to adjoining residential structures. Officials confirmed that no civilian casualties were reported. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, although the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.

The incident has once again highlighted the long-pending demand for a dedicated Fire & Emergency Services Station in Lal Bazaar. Residents pointed out that a D-Class Fire Station has already been approved for the area and that a suitable government land parcel adjacent to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Lal Bazaar has been identified. However, the project remains stalled due to the pending transfer of the identified land to the Fire & Emergency Services Department.

Local residents and stakeholders have urged the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and the concerned authorities to expedite the land transfer process and facilitate the establishment of the much-needed Fire Station, stating that a permanent facility in Lal Bazaar would significantly enhance emergency response and help protect lives and property in the densely populated area.
