Lal Bazaar: In the bustling locality of Lal Bazaar, Manzoor Ahmad Bazaz from Umar Colony A Lal Bazaar, a dedicated artisan continues to uphold the centuries-old tradition of walnut wood carving, reflecting Kashmir’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

Working with precision and patience, the craftsman creates intricate designs, including traditional motifs and calligraphy, using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations.

Each piece stands as a testament to the skill and dedication required to sustain this heritage craft.

Despite facing challenges such as declining market demand and the growing presence of machine-made alternatives, artisans like him remain committed to preserving the authenticity of Kashmiri craftsmanship.

His work not only keeps the tradition alive but also serves as an inspiration for younger generations to reconnect with their cultural roots.

Lal Bazaar, 17th March 26: Residents of Lal Bazaar have begun advocating for Aasar-e-Sharief Lal Bazaar to be brought under the administration of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, citing concerns over the shrine’s maintenance and overall condition.

Locals point out that despite the shrine’s religious significance, it lacks the level of organized management, infrastructural upkeep, and beautification observed at several other prominent shrines across the Valley. Being under private administration, they believe there is limited scope for planned development and systematic maintenance.

Community members also referred to the recent beautification and development works carried out at Dargah Hazratbal under the supervision of Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, noting that such institutional oversight has significantly improved facilities and the overall environment for devotees.

They believe that bringing Aasar-e-Sharief under the Waqf Board could similarly ensure better management, enhanced facilities, and consistent upkeep, particularly during important religious occasions when large numbers of devotees visit the shrine.

The matter, for now, remains at the level of public suggestion, with residents hoping that the concerned authorities will take note of the growing sentiment.

Lal Bazaar, 17th March 26: Hundreds of devotees gathered at Aasar-e-Sharief Lal Bazaar on the sacred night of Laylat-ul-Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr), engaging in night-long prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, and supplications seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

The shrine witnessed a steady flow of worshippers throughout the night as people from Lal Bazaar and adjoining localities assembled to observe the spiritually significant occasion.

Devotees spent the night in ibadat, offering special prayers and remembering the importance of the blessed night believed to be greater than a thousand months.

The atmosphere around the shrine remained deeply spiritual as believers prayed for peace, prosperity, and well-being for their families, the community, and the Muslim Ummah.

Laylat-ul-Qadr holds great significance in Islam as it commemorates the night when the Holy Qur’an was first revealed, making it one of the most revered nights during the holy month of Ramazan.
