Faisal Khankashi Condemns Attack on Farooq Abdullah, Calls It an Attack on Democracy

Srinagar: Public figure Faisal Khankashi has strongly condemned the reported attack on veteran leader Farooq Abdullah, calling it a “dangerous assault on democratic values and the dignity of political discourse.”

In a powerful statement issued on Thursday, Khankashi said that such acts of violence against senior leaders are unacceptable in a democratic nation like India and must be condemned by everyone, irrespective of political differences.

“Dr. Farooq Abdullah is a senior statesman who has served Jammu and Kashmir for decades. Political disagreements are natural in a democracy, but violence and intimidation are the language of those who fear debate,” Khankashi said.

He emphasized that India’s democracy is built on dialogue, tolerance, and respect for institutions, and any attempt to silence voices through aggression only weakens the democratic fabric of the nation.

“Today it is Farooq Abdullah, tomorrow it could be anyone. If we allow violence to replace debate, we betray the very idea of India,” Khankashi added.

Khankashi urged authorities to conduct a swift and transparent investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Calling for unity and calm, he appealed to citizens across Jammu and Kashmir to stand together against political violence and reaffirm their faith in democracy.

“India’s strength lies in its democracy. We must protect it not with anger, but with courage, law, and unity,” Khankashi concluded.
