Day Two of Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign marked by Pledge ceremony at Mini Secretariat Shopian
Awareness events held across district
SHOPIAN, APRIL 13: Second day of the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign in District Shopian was observed with a pledge ceremony held at the Mini Secretariat Shopian and awareness events across the district.
Employees of the Mini Secretariat participated in the pledge ceremony at Shopian, collectively affirming their resolve to work towards a drug free society and to actively support awareness efforts under the campaign.
The event was attended by the Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr Zakir Hussain Faaz, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shopian, Shakoor Ahmad Dar, along with other district officers and officials.
While addressing the gathering, the ADDC underscored the importance of individual responsibility in eliminating drug abuse. He stated that the fight against drugs must begin at the personal level, urging employees to lead by example through conscious choices and responsible behaviour.
He further highlighted that consistent individual efforts can collectively bring meaningful change in society.
Employees were also seen holding placards depicting various anti-drug slogans, reinforcing the message of awareness and prevention.
On the occasion, official from the District Social Welfare Office highlighted the ill effects of drug abuse and emphasized the need for awareness, early intervention, and community participation to curb the menace.
Meanwhile, as per the campaign schedule, similar pledge ceremonies and awareness events were also conducted in schools across the district, accompanied by special morning assemblies where students and staff took a collective oath to stay away from drugs and promote a healthy lifestyle.

The demonstrators expressed dissatisfaction over low wages, delayed payments, and lack of job security, urging the authorities to address their grievances at the earliest. They appealed to the government to take immediate steps to improve their working conditions and ensure timely disbursement of salaries.

The protest remained peaceful, with workers warning that they would continue their agitation if their demands are not addressed promptly.

An awareness programme under the ongoing IEC Campaign on Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, J&K was conducted today by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Shopian in collaboration with the Education Department at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Zainapora.
SDM Zainapora, Bilal Ahmed attended the programme as the Chief Guest. While speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the measures being taken in the subdivision to tackle the menace of illegal cultivation of cannabis and destruction of wild bhung. He stated that due to sustained efforts of the district administration, cultivation over forty hectares of land were converted towards the Sustainable and Cash crops which were previously used for poppy and Cannabis cultivation.
He urged the audience to cooperate with the administration in eliminating the menace of drug abuse and illegal cultivation. He also advised students to stay away from narcotics and become ambassadors of a drug-free society.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Education Officer, District Information Officer and other speakers highlighted the growing menace of drug abuse and stressed the need for collective efforts to eradicate it from society.
They urged the participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and spread awareness among people, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of drugs.
The speakers emphasized that public cooperation, awareness and strong willpower are essential to make the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan a successful movement at the grassroots level.
On the occasion, two skits highlighting the ill effects of drug abuse were presented by the students of UPS Safanagri and Raja Art and Cultural Foundation Dooru, which were widely appreciated by the participants and officials present on the occasion.
Slogan writing and painting competitions were also held on the theme of drug-free society in which 30 students from different schools participated.

Assesses achievements of District Capex 2025-26
SHOPIAN, APRIL 10: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian Shishir Gupta today chaired a meeting to review and discuss the preparation of the District CAPEX Budget 2026–27.
At the outset, the DDC emphasized the importance of timely and comprehensive planning for the upcoming financial year.
All departments were directed to prepare and submit well structured, realistic, and need based proposals in line with the developmental priorities of the district.
The meeting primarily focused on identifying priority sectors, ensuring optimal allocation of resources, and streamlining the planning process for effective implementation of works under CAPEX 2026–27.
Officers were instructed to give due importance to projects of public utility and long-term impact.
During the deliberations, review of District CAPEX 2025-26 was also discussed. It was highlighted that the district achieved 100% physical targets, reflecting effective ex*****on and monitoring of developmental works across sectors.
The DDC stressed the need for improved coordination among departments and adherence to timelines to avoid delays in project ex*****on.
Emphasis was also laid on maintaining quality standards and ensuring transparency in implementation.
